Review

The Diving Bell And The Butterfly tells the story of Jean-Dominique Bauby - the editor of the fashion magazine 'Elle France,' who at the age of 43 suffered a stroke that paralyzed his entire body, except his left eye.

Using his eye to blink out his memoir, Bauby eloquently described the aspects of his interior world, from the psychological torment of being trapped inside his body to his imagined stories from lands he'd only visited in his mind.

This was hands-down the best movie I've seen in the past year. Absolutely uplifting, crushing and breathtaking all in one.

Could not recommend this movie highly enough.

I would totally agree.

This film shows us how a person who is "dead" on the outside, can be more alive than any of us ever could be. It's an amazing film with breathtaking scenes. It is heartwarming as it is heartbreaking. Anyone who wants to see true art through cinema, and want to see a perfect portrayal of a true story, then this if for you..

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Super. Buy it, I will.

I would also highly recommend. Touching, gentle and delicate and at times thrusting, powerful and emotive. No diabetes-inducing sentiment, not overly cerebral and no unnecessary melodrama. A watercolour of a film with depth and appeal to all ages: I saw it with my friend when we were 19 and the theatre had a wide range in there. The outstanding success of the film is the beautiful sense of layering: of emotion, memory, sensation and experience. Loved it.
