My boyfriend first introduced me to this fantastic anime a few months ago as he's a massive fan of it aswell and I've been totally hooked on it myself ever since! I'm also coinciding watching this series with reading the manga series at the same time aswell, which is just as good as the anime and does it justice indeed...A truly enjoyable and extremely cool series with something for everyone...I'm a certified Death Note-A-Holic now! :)
Wow Best Manga Out

Death Note is a series based around solving a mass murder mystery in which the killer uses a note book dropped by a death god to kill people. In order to kill, the main character Light must write down the name of the person he wants to kill and manipulate how the person dies with the simple knowledge of name and image of the person in his mind.
The part where this series shines is the mystery element. It's clever story telling and well made characters make for a brilliant piece of art. This is a thinking anime where you need to immerse yourself into the series in order to get the best watch out of it.
It's not without fault though. The overpowering gothic scenario can often take away the clever mystery elements.
Also a couple of characters are quite annoying, in this case Misa & Mello.
But I would ignore those faults as the story is so well written that any problems can easily be swept under the carpet and forgotten about.
Masterpiece

I disagree, ive read the manga and i really feel that the anime does it justice. The storyline is simply brilliant and very clever, the animation is good and there is some well placed touches of colour to correspond with both sides of the story. The score is excellent and i have been left chomping at the bit for the next volume. Ive read that it may lose its pace after 10 or episodes or so but unfortunately i cannot comment on that yet. Overall i would say an absolute "must have" for any anime fan....
WOW!

I randomly browsed upon this manga and then i read the the reviews and thought it sounded really good. I must say it surpassed my expectations and then some.
Its so geniously orchestrated and put together. Its even killing me now that i have only seen the 1st 8 episodes! I cant wait for vol 2 and the others. This is the only manga out of all my collection that matches with my favourite "3x3eyes".
The plot is immense, keeps you guessing and it always 3 or 4 steps in front. I dont know the whole story since seeing 8 episodes only, and im addicted even now. I wonder what happens next.
Trust me all this is a must OWN if you like manga.
One of the best

This is an incredible series. The story is probably the most original I've come across in a while, and this also contains some of the best animation I've seen so far in anime.
I won't bother going over the story as it's been spelled out a hundred times over, but it is great. I loved the artwork in the manga (I'm a big fan of Takeshi Obata's style), so to see it put into animation was a real treat. The design of the characters and the story stay very faithful to the manga. Also, all the characters are very well voiced, in both Japanese and English, all the voices suit the characters they belong to well. Music is something I'm rarely keen on in anime, but the music on Death Note is great. There's one particular piece that comes up in the series often that distinctly reminds of The Exorcist theme!
This is simply just one of the best anime series around at the moment. It's dark and twisted alot of the time, but there's also some humour too. And as for 'Hikairi's' review, well, fair enough if they're opinion of the series wasn't so good (everyone's entitled to their own opinions), but I just can't see how they would have thought the series was paced slower than the manga's. But anyway, I think this is an amazing series, most highly recommended:)
Don't be fooled

Being a massive fan of the manga very early on, I greatly anticipated the anime....and was totally let down.
Its not 'bad'...though it loses a lot of the pacing it had in the manga, the characters don't look as good...after about 10 episodes it starts to drag,
You can't argue, the story is possibly the greatest ever told by a manga/anime, though if you really want to get into it and enjoy it, buy the manga
Awesome!

Man, I bought this DVD due to many comments about how good is it so I check it out.
Well, it is quite awesome and very interesting plot about arrogant school boy who decided to use Death Note to wipe out all these scums but with a high price to pay for.
You have to watch it and you won't be bored ever as it's deep thinking and keep you glued. I know I am!
Get it now. 10/10
Greatest anime & possibly greatest story ever told!

You can see for yourself what every one thinks of it, 5 stars all round, positive comments, nothing more really needs to be said.
I will how ever be the first to admit that the middle of the series does have a bit of a dip in pace & brilliance & it might put some people off, BUT, stick with it because I guarantee things pick up again in no time & build towards a truly mind blowing ending! (think of it as a couple of episodes to let your mind rest up before being thrown back into the thick of things)
You will never guess which way the story is going to go & you'll be left wanting more & more after each episode!
