Best British Film so far this Century

I love this film. It is certainly the best British comedy I have seen in a long time. I can understand why it's distributors seem to have marketed it as a biker movie but it's appeal is far wider. Here are characters we all know or have come across with personal stories/dilemmas that are fairly universal. I know a 'Grouch' and I reckon there are loads of 'Marl's' around in all walks of life! Fred's journey I found quite moving. The character observation is spot on, the dialogue well-written and the film is so,so,so funny! The shop scene has to be classic in anybody's book. From this point on the film takes off, was over too soon and left me wanting more. Great casting of Peter Bowles sans moustache as the gangster-type at the beginning. Great to hear an original soundtrack.... I want to buy the cd, the music was so good. Well, you can tell I'm a fan. I thoroughly recommend this film. Definitely one for a good night in.
Gem!

I love this film, although I have seen a fair few reviews putting it down. Maybe we move in different circles, as I found the characters to have a lot of credibility - I have bumped into a Grouch (Phil Daniels) once or twice in my little lifetime, honest! Mind you, that side box was over-the-top enough to make me chuckle. Grouch stole this film, in my opinion. Just want to pick him up and cuddle him, he's such a softy sweetheart, naïve in all the right places. Fred (Gary Stretch, phwah!) is on the point of an epiphany, realising how important his daughter is to him. Fred needs to choose between what he wants and what he thinks he wants. Tyg (Geoff Bell) is an almost sobering influence on the trio. His character seems shadowed by his mates, but he needs to be there as a foundation for the trio. I'm sure a lot of people have met a Mole (sorry, don't have the actor's name). I know one in particular I'd love to pull such a stunt on, but can't mention him publicly - he's quite well known in my world and it might put ideas into the wrong (or right?) people's heads. When grouch read the paper report in Mrs Welsh Lady's shop, I chuckled!
My main concern was what our real Wessex lads think of seeing themselves portrayed as neatly combed Power Rangers, unorganised and generally dippy. Next time I bump into one, maybe I'll be tanked up enough to ask (then run!).
I hear MAG were a bit dubious about this film at first, but these characters do exist, though they seem to be becoming few and far between. Watching this film makes me realise what a duller world it will be when the likes are gone. Guess we'll have to give up the ghost to a nine-to-five, second-mortgage existence.
I'd like to says a great big THANKYOU to Jon Ivay. I found a lot of realism throughout the film, sad, tender moments mixed with cracking humour which gets us through from birth to death. Having grown up on the likes of Cheech and Chong and the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, congrats to the team for the most descriptive and credible trip scene I can recall ever seeing!
I'm putting the word around about this film. I don't think it had half the publicity in the general market as it deserves. I'll be looking out for Ivay in the future. Well done and take it easy, bro.
Genuine British humour

Dont know if its my stupid sense of humour but the whole film- storyline, actors, script, etc was totally hilarious! (would like to see "The Wessex boys" leathers a bit dirtier though)

I cant really add to anything others have said, other than it is easily, by a welsh B-road mile, the best British movie since Withnail and I. Yes it is that funny. Bikers, stoners, festival goers, and anyone who ran out of stamina, settled down, and wants to take a trip down memory lane, will all take this movie to their hearts. The pub and shop scenes are enough alone to make it worth buying, but when there is so much more thrown in besides, then to not own this movie is an act of sheer lunacy.
Awesome british biker comedy

Great film, I saw this at cinema too and absolutely loved it. Went with a load of bikers and every one of us enjoyed the film. Had tears streaming down my face for half of it so I probably missed a few of the gags. Got to buy it on DVD now so I can see what I missed and enjoy all the original laughs over again. Well worth buying
excellent

Saw this at the cinema, and said then that I would buy it when it came out on DVD, it's a funny, BRITISH biker movie with a difference! buy it NOW!! Look out for the sweet shop scene.... My wife nearly wet her pants. Hilarious. Phil Daniels is an absolute gem in this wonderful peice by Jon Ivay. Well Done Jon.
My review, I hope, is "Simple But Effective" as I'm no writer or critic.
Highly Entertaining Indy Gem

As a massive Zulu fan, I loved Freebird just for the mass brawl scene at the films climax and it's great to know what happened to Jimmy the mod after he crashed his scooter in Brighton at the end of Quadrophenia! (yes I know it's not a sequel but not inconceivable that Jimmy swapped sides is it?) The 3 central characters work really well and there's some great knockabout, dope induced dialogue that Cheech and Chong would be proud of.
All in all a very entertaining watch that isn't just for bikers, Zulu or Quadrophenia fans and I for one will be holidaying in Wales in the near future (sans motorbike but hopefully in the old guy at the end of the film's caravan....Arthur Brown, welcome back to earth!).
Recommended ****

A well written, funny film which will appeal to everyone out there with a sense of humour!!!. Give it a go, it's good to see an Independent British Movie more than holding it's own against the big established studios!! Definitely worth adding to any film collection.
