I got this for my elderly Mum and she loved it. Children should watch more of this genre.A good yarn coupled with very good SFX and a decent script. The scenery was stunning and the characters all plausible ( I loved the bulldog). Worth keeping in your DVD library and showing to kids on a wet afternoon. All age groups can enjoy this and it's does not have a cheesy ending.
Pay the electricity bill!

I'd go along with most of what the others have said about this film, but I do have one minor criticism - the penultimate segment of the film seems to have been shot in the dark, a fault which spoils an increasing number of otherwise-good movies. We are left to surmise that the ending is happy, because we can't actually SEE it. Otherwise, great scenery, good acting and a superb "monster". I liked the bulldog "chewing a wasp", too.
An all round family film.

What a lovely film for one and all! No rudeness or swearing, a really good family film. My boys enjoyed it from the start and have rekindled the next generation of 'Is there really a Loch Ness Monster'! I was expecting to see an unreal like 'Nessy' but was impressed with the quality of the 'beast'. As said in a previous review it will be one of those Bank Holiday films we will get to see for many years along with the Railway Children!
Classic Sunday family entertainment at it€s best

Based on the novel Babe by Dick King-Smith, The Water Horse is set in Scotland during World War II, and tell the story of a young boy, Angus (Alex Etel), who discovers an egg near Loch Ness. The egg hatches in to what looks like a baby dinosaur, and turns out to be a mythical Water Horse.
Sunday family entertainment at it's best. You really can't go wrong with this one. It reminds you of a fifties adventure film like Lassie. Very predictable story, but hey, it's for kids, and despite a relatively slow pace, the film does manage to avoid adults looking at their watches all the time. I guarantee you this will be on the BBC for years to come. It's just their type of family film.

I took my daughter into the cinema to see this after much pestering so wasn't expecting too much. What I got was a very good family film which looked fantastic. There were some nice touches of humour and drama throughout which made me forgive some of the attempts at a Scottish accent. Pleasantly surprising if you don't think of it as just another 'Loch Ness' style film.
good film

good film i didnt think i would like it but i did its a family film every one will love it the water horse was so cute went it was little it was so funny when the water horse start eating all that food n you just seen him at the bottom of the bin its a great film u should watch it
Although this film wasn't too bad at all, there were a couple problems, which can't just be swept aside. However, this is perhaps the best Loch Ness Monster film I've ever seen. What's more is that it's done in a way that can appeal for almost everyone.
The main problem with the film though, is that it is what it is - meaning it's yet another Loch Ness Monster film. It would seem that about every few years or so, another one comes out, and they are usually awful. For that very reason alone, I can't give this film any more than 4 stars because this subject has been so intensely overdone it's easy to predict exactly what happens.
This tale though, has a slight twist that makes it a little more unique than all the other Loch Ness Monster films. As I wrote earlier, it's got something in it that appeals for almost everyone.
The story is set in World War Two times, and Angus (played by Alex Etel) is a rather lonely lad who just so happens to find one of the rarest creatures in the world, whereby only one can be in existence at any one point in time. Angus hides the creature in his house, where the military has strategically garrisoned there. For a little while, the events that occur in the house are trivial, silly, and just a little annoying, but that's the part where it will have all the children loving it. After a while Angus realises that he must let the creature go, and he releases it into the Loch. All misery swiftly breaks loose for Angus and he soon finds himself back at the Loch in search for his friend. The rest of the film is Angus pretty much just fooling around with the monster, at which point I wanted the monster to violently rip the poor bothersome adolescent up into shreds. Unfortunately it carried on into a loving story 'let's go nowhere'. Not literally of course, but metaphorically.
In the end I see this as just another Loch Ness Movie... But it isn't half bad and it deserves to be watched... Once... Maybe a couple more for your children though.
the water horse was fantastic.....

You don't need to have kids to see this film. It is fun. It is rare these days to see a good film with a great cast but this is exceptional. Or should that be a great film with a good cast!
