Pushing Daisies follows the story of Ned (Lee Pace), who, as a boy, discovers that he can bring the dead back to life. As an adult he is now a pie maker and not only uses this gift to ripen fruit for his pies but also solve murders alongside a private investigator. The tale then gets complicated as he brings his childhood sweetheart, Chuck (Anna Friel) back to life. Life would be perfect for Ned and Chuck except one cruel twist, if he ever touches her again she'll go back to being dead... But this time for good!

Love the series - shame about the DVD!

We absolutely love Pushing Daisies - one of the best things we've seen on TV for ages and we were gutted when it ended after only 9 episodes. Super relieved to know that the next season has 22 episodes planned!

Anyway - we've been watching and enjoying our DVD set since it arrived however I am disappointed to see absolutely NO EXTRAS with it. All you get is the 9 episodes, and that's it. Bit poor on the part of the studio etc, but no reflection on the wonderfulness of the programme itself.

If in doubt as whether to buy this or not, PLEASE DO - just be aware that there are no extras included. I'm not deducting a star because I'm rating the show itself, and how much we love it, but the DVD itself could definitely be improved.

I absolutely adore this series :-) It´s odd, fun and well written. Littered with film and TV references throughout. Lee Pace has fantastic comic timing, while Anna Friel has never been so good (and looks even more gorgeous than ever!). Carry On legend Jim Dale is delightful as the Narrator (and destined for future cool like Tom Bakers turn on Little Britain). A hightened reality, at turns funny and sad, while super FX clash with great use of classic "back projection" and quirky camera movements. The show is almost stolen from the excellent ensemble cast by the brilliant Chi McBride. Can you tell I really dig this show? This DVD is a "Must Buy". Roll on series two . . . .

 Uniquely Exciting!

Although this show has yet to air on TV from the writing of this review, I have seen all of the episodes so far and believe it to be one of the best shows in a long time. Far from the torrent of "next big things", that Lost and Heroes was labeled, Pushing Daisies is a visual master piece for TV, funny, quirky and full of wit and heart. The stories are always full of twists and suprises, and the premise of not being able to ever touch the one you love and the past being buried with unusual secrets makes the show so watchable. Not sure what the DVD will be like, but if it's half as good as the actual show, you will have a new treasured possesion!

The most original and compelling show I have seen in years

Pushing daisies tells the story of a Pie Maker named Ned who learned at a young age that he has an ability to bring people back from the dead. But the trick is that if the dead person stays alive longer than a minute, someone else will die in their place.

Ned nows uses his ability to solve crimes with Emerson Cod, a sarcastic detective. Ned's life is turned upside down when his childhood sweetheart, Charlotte Charles, is murdered. But he brings her back to life and keeps her hiding. She also joins them on the murder cases.

Other characters include dippy blonde waitress, Olive, who is head over heels in love with Ned but is soon questioning the real reason why Chuck has entered Ned's life. She provides the comedy and is played by a fantastic actress. Lily and Vivian are Charlotte's aunts who raised her. They are retired mermaid dancers and the show see's them deal with Charlotte's death.

The show sounds rather dramatic but it is a crime show with a quirky and fantasy twist. Very different to anything else on television. Season 1 only has nine episodes due to the writer's strike and we do not get any extras. The price is worth it without a doubt.

Season 1 ends on a cliffhanger but a Season 2 is soon following on dvd.

 Brilliant!
