If it's value you're looking for then this is good value for 2 hours but then on the down side it is very documentary with just snippets of Van performing with some shots of an old reel-to-reel tape recorder with Van's voice talking over. The DVD arguably covers his most creative years although some of the early footage is a bit muffled. Interspersed throughout are the usual suspects who have written biographies on Van (but never endorsed by him) which reminded me of Van's song, "New Biography" from Back on Top (1999) which tended to discredit their efforts. The DVD is quite informative and does provide different opinions on his widely varied musical influences but musically the DVD is a bit of a mish mash of everything and requires a bit of discipline to watch it in its entirety at one sitting. The interactive Q&A is quite difficult (for me anyway) and my result was deemed "passable" so I could have done better. I think the DVD may have benefited from more prolonged music performances and less of the "experts" views on Van. It is a good documentary, if you like that sort of thing, but for the music enthusiast it lacks a bit of substance.
