Academy Award winner Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) once again teams up with Academy Award- nominated writer Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) on Rush, a fast-paced and spectacular re-creation of the merciless and legendary 1970s Formula 1 rivalry between English playboy James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth; Thor) and his Austrian opponent, Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl; Inglourious Basterds).

Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of racing, Rush portrays the exhilarating true story of the charismatic Hunt and the methodically brilliant Lauda, two of the greatest rivals the world of sport has ever witnessed. Taking us into their personal lives and clashes on and off the Grand Prix racetrack, Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error.

Well to begin I didnt know much about the rivalry of these to racers, so I though it would be hard for me to understand but I was wrong. The movie starts by taking you back to where it all began; to where these two legends met face to face for the first time, and dont think their first meeting was as nice as it sounds ;)

As the film progresses gives you a clear picture of why these to remained massive rivals but whilst adding action, romance and comedy at the same time, the mix of these genres together creates a tense, edge of your seat experience as you watch it. Your will never get bored whilst watching this master piece and you will truly not regret buying it, in fact I regret not seeing it at the cinema twice but anyway.

To conclude this film is a action-packed; pedal to the metal masterpiece which will give you a history at the same time as given you a 1st person view of the classic racing in the 1970s era, so like I said, I really recommend this film to everybody racing lover or not, because as well as hardcore racing, there is also and tad romance.

Ron Howard's best film in years!

I was dimly aware of the real life backdrop to ron howard's latest film but essentially went into this film blind....................and came out entertained by what i think was one of 2013's best films. And i don't even think you need to be an f1 fan to enjoy this.

As daniel bruhl and chris hemsworth create a believable and not always likeable pair of competitors the film never makes one the hero and one the bad guy. Both men have their faults and their strengths and their love for the sport binds them. Only their approach to the sport and to life brings them into odds with each other and so the film has two human characters that we as the audience both can become attached to and involved in.

Bruhl should have made the oscar shortlist for his work but even though he didn't his performance is easily the better of the two, although hemsworth proves he's more than just biceps as well. The recreation of the 70s seems exacting, the editing, score, tension and visual effects all combining into a superb piece of entertainment that i will easily buy and rewatch in the future.

This shouldn't be limited to just motor racing fans.

I've never been a F1 or motor racing fan and I was kind of roped into seeing this film when it was released. As it turned out, it became my favourite film of 2013. Visually it's so classy-looking. The racing scenes are just intense and stunning, and with the roaring of the engines just being so enveloping, so you feel you're racing with them. The racing is the third character in the story's engaging triangle involving real 1970's racing rivals James Hunt and Nikki Lauda. Daniel Bruhl has had a lot of recognition for his role as Nikki Lauda, and rightly so. Disappointing that he missed the Academy shortlist but it doesn't take away from his spot on performance as the cool and methodical Lauda. Chris Hemsworth proves he's more than just Thor, with a breakaway turn as the exuberant, risk-taker Hunt. They're not particularly likeable characters but they're two contrasting sides of the same coin and you seem to root for them both equally as they fight through their own professional and personal obstacles. You feel the rivalry between them but also see that rivalry push each other to the limits of the profession they're passionate about, and to win the ultimate title as World Champions. This film will definitely be added to my DVD collection.
