4.5 Many original scenes cut out - disappointing Happy1980 | 01/01/2014 | See all Happy1980's reviews (1) I love the Godfather films but am extremely disappointed having seen the original cinematic version - in cinema and video release - that Coppola has cut down all three significantly to reduce viewing time in this so called "restoration". The beauty of an epic is that people like them long - Parts I and II are roughly three hours each but have been reduced to around two hours or so. Yes the scenes are available in extras as "additional scenes" but, excuse me, they were the original scenes and it's not the same as seeing them in flow during the actual film. The worst thing about this is I was looking forward to seeing the films on blue ray, remastered etc and in normal, full length. It appears now following the "restoration" that all subsequent versions are the same as this - and you cannot buy the improved film (picture quality/sound wise) in its normal length. Disgrace. My advice to people who know something about this great trilogy is don't buy this version - buy any version which is pre-restoration. You might not get improved picture quality, sound etc but at least you get the full, uninterrupted film. Coppola should hang his head in shame for this so called "restoration". PS this is not an exaggeration. Pure fact.
