This film was very gory and gripping but goes on quite a bit towards the end making you think when is it gonna finish??
This aside the storyline was quite good and the acting was quite convincing. Some scenes were really quite creepy and gross but this all adds to the charm of an OK horror.
If you want a film with a creepy edge but not A* acting then this is the one for you.

It seems that the only really good horror films recently have been foreign language films. REC was brilliant (Spanish) and Frontier(s) (French) follows the trend. The "heroes", if you can call them that are on the run after a heist goes wrong (don't they all). With one shot, and dying, the group split up, with three of them off to the hospital, and the other two go to off to a dodgy hostel. What ensues shocks, disgusts and repels in equal measures. However, that's exactly what a horror film should do. It has Texas Chainsaw overtones with a Nasty (Nazi) twist and when all seemingly is lost, things get worse.
This film is very good. Well filmed and acted. You don't really care for the characters to start with but by the end you can empathise with them. I;m sure most people would do the same.
Sit back and enjoy a refreshingly modern horror film.

A bit typical of lots of horror at the moment, and although some characters were interesting, I was glad to reach the end of the movie. It was decent enough but would not stand out as something I would recommend someone to buy.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Makes EVERY horror film out today look wimpy!

You want to see a film that really lives up to the title? Horror film thriller movie, whatever you want to call it it certainly isn't a romantic comedy. Makes every horror film out today look really sappy. I watched some new ones like "the eye" and "mirrors" and "hills have eyes" and "wrong turn" and they literally bored me stupid. "Thats not a horror movie!.....this (frontiers) is a horror movie!".....
Lots of brilliant ideas and some very very nasty scenes that will make your teeth gnash! Which is brilliant since theres nothing more irritating than seeing reviews for films like "hostel" saying it was sickeningly horrific when there was less gore than teletubbies happyhour! The story isnt genius, bunch of criminals seek a room for the night...but the night is spent in the home of some of the most mental folks france will probably ever have and thats where the horror begins! Dont want to give anything away so just watch it....its more than good, any horror meister wanting to produce a sappy teen slasher should watch this and learn some major lessons. Great film.....but dont take your date to see it lol

This is like the best horror film i think ive ever seen. and ive seen alot. its got lots of nice gore, but also a really good story to go with it. its also got loads of really interesting scenes, both visually and in terms of the plot. its just well good. and really good acting too, i think.

I enjoyed this film but it still had the "Texas Chainsaw" feel to it that a lot of new horrors seem to have.
If you like your gore and you like French horror then I suggest getting "Inside" now that film hurts.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Bloody & entertaining but lacking depth...

I heard this French horror film compared to the likes of À l'intérieur (Inside) which also came out in the same year, and being a fan of the latter, I decided to give this a try and had high hopes.

It starts well against a backdrop of riots in Paris and the rise of a right-wing presidential candidate, however it quickly loses its seriousness as soon as everyone arrives at the hostel.

From here onwards it quickly becomes very tongue-in-cheek with over-the-top characters, and at one point the family dinner resembles something from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (the one with Dennis Hopkins, not the remake). As the violence escalates and intensifies it becomes more and more surreal with implied paedophilia (leading to deformed babies) and incest between family members.

Whilst it was enjoyable to watch I found myself having to adjust my expectations. I quickly realised I wasn't going to witness a dark gritty horror film with characters with depth but something which instead went straight for the throat in terms of brutality and doesn't care how outrageous it may come across to the viewer.

I'm not saying don't watch it - definately do as it's hugely entertaining - just don't expect as much depth/plot as other foreign horror films such as Switchblade Romance or Inside.

What more can i say about this film, This is the movie that Hostel wishes it was - If your a horror/gore lover then this is one to watch, i myself being a huge fan of Switchblade Romance (one of the best horrors i have ever seen) was expecting alot from this film and let me tell you, it did not dissapoint. At times you cant help but laugh, but alot of the time you cant help but cringe too. This is a deeply political movie but dont let that put you off, its done in a way that isn't in your face or too over the top it just adds another good point to the film.

If i could give it more than 5 stars i would, this must not be missed 110% reccomended!

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars PLEASE DONT COMPARE THIS TO HOSTEL

because one is american porn/torture pointless trash and this is a french terrifying masterpiece from the makers of one of the greatest horrors ever, switchblade romance, not quite as good as switchblade but runs it very close, the americans just cant seem to capture the tension and fear in their films unlike the french and spanish who are becoming masters at horror,so move over america, we have new horror masters and they really do know how to grab and shock you....get this film now and switchblade romance if you havent already got it!
