 Quirky Teenage Drama

| | See all stuartfear's reviews (605)

The story of a teenager getting knocked up, something which seems so common in the modern day. Along with the pregnancy plot comes a nice look at people, and namely what is love, happiness and acceptance. Comedy wise some things work some things don't, the character Juno has her moments but she becomes grinding early into the movie. Jason Bateman plays a fairly straight role with little comedy but holds his place well in this one. It's a nice story about being faced with a problem and having to work through it. It has a nice little bit of romance which although doesn't have you crying will make you grin.

Unfortunately this is a really bad movie, Jennifer Garner was the only actress worth watching. It's a pretty pointless film that doesn't have any aspirations. Don't waste 1 hour 30 minutes of your life watching.

Feel Good Comedy of the Decade

Juno a smart, confident high-school student finds herself faced with an unexpected pregnancy thanks to a one time encounter with best friend Paulie. Deciding that abortion is not an option she finds a seemingly perfect young couple that are willing looking to adopt her unborn child, but soon finds adult life is not as simple as it first seems.

First off I would like to address the criticism that accuses Juno of glamorizing teenage pregnancy. We know how difficult it can be but this movie is a comedy, not a documentary, and should judged as such. Taken on that basis Juno is pretty much a complete success. It is genuinely funny throughout featuring some very clever dialogue and Ellen Page is fantastic in the lead role. For one of her first major pictures she demonstrates great on-screen chemistry with the entire cast. Her scenes with both Michael Cera (Paulie) and Jason Bateman as the prospective, adoptive father being particular standouts.

Add to this a cracking soundtrack featuring the likes of The Kinks, Buddy Holly and Belle & Sebastian and you have one of the best feel good comedies of the last decade.

 Fun Coming of Age Tale!

Ellen Page is fantastic in the role of Juno, the pregnant school girl who is giving her baby away. Ellen Page really drives the story with her performance. The rest of the cast are great, good script and excellent direction by Jason Reitman!
A great film! A great coming of age tale!

 a great story

a great story of a young girl with a flippant attitude to her teenage pregnancy, and it doesnt have your typically expected outcome. juno is a fantastic character! funny, cute, and quirky, and rather cheeky! i do think however, they could have done so much more with this film, and the fact that her belly seems to stay the same size from her scan to her birth was a bit weird, but at just over 4 quid, you cant miss it!

 Ok Film.....

This film was alright, it wasn't brilliant not by a longshot, but alright i suppose. I have watched it a couple of times, but i dont think i will be watching it again anytime soon to be honest. The actors were brilliant, but it was the storyline that let it down for me, it got a little boring in places, other than that it was an alright film.

 Sarcastic much?

this film is a comedy as you'd expect BUT its type of humour usually runs on sarcasm and dryness, not only is it a comedy but it is a serious film but a comedy never the less. the main cast do a fantastic performance, I personally like the boy on the front cover as he delivers an unforgettable performance to his role in almost every film that he is in. Some people may not like it as its not their kind of humour and others will like it because they are probably Sarcy's... like me :D. so if you're a sarcy get this film. (sarcy = sarcastic person)

Much more serious than it looks

This is much more than a comedy. The whole teenage pregnancy thing is more of a major issue. It does have its funny bits. Deserved its oscar nomination

Like 'Love Story' but without the love... or the story

This film has had great reviews (here and elsewhere) and stuck around in the charts for ages so it seemed worth punt. I wish I hadn't bothered.

While all the parts are reasonably well acted it simpy had nothing to say (except perhaps 'Hey teenagers! Have a baby by accident. Give it up or keep it, who gives a monkeys'). No, hang on, there is a message in this film... romance and love are dead. That is a depressing message.

The main problem was that I found all the characters really irritating and superficial, particularly the cynical, loveless, and self-centred Juno.

The only thing the titular spoiled, charmless brat is deserves is a child as thankless and uncaring as herself.

The whole film was ill conceived. (Sorry, couldn't resist that).
