Brand new gritty BBC crime drama starring Ben Wishaw (Perfume, Nathan Barley) and Pete Postlethwaite (The Usual Suspects, Brassed Off).

Ben Coulter is an average man in his early twenties. One evening Ben takes his father's black cab without permission and ends up in a police cell. His crime however is not theft. What appears to be an evening of spontaneous fun with a sexy stranger culminates in a dead girl with Ben covered in her blood and holding the murder weapon. Despite the wealth of evidence against him and significant gaps in his memory, Ben is sure he did not kill the girl. He is about to discover what the criminal justice system does to someone in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Great BBC TV drama. Just would like to specify that the Dvd has English subtitles for those who might want to know, this information being not provided in the Play.com Dvd details.

 Good but not great

This series is gripping TV, but for those in the know it's not as good as it aspires to be.
Particularly disappointing is its slanted view of "criminal justice" - the police are corrupt, solicitors / barristers give their clients instructions rather than the other way round. There are token gestures to redress the balance ie. the young copper who can speak French and the young barrister who takes on the murder trial (as if!) but on the whole, this is pure fiction.
Taking the programme for what it is - a yarn - should give you hours of entertainment, although I did find the final wrapping up episode to be rather rushed.

The best thing I have watched for a VERY long time. So gripping, it was hard to wait for the next episode, and yet at the same time it was so moving it was sometimes hard to watch. Allow enough time to watch all episodes at once, 'cos once you've started you'll be hooked.

If Only There Were More Like This.....

Having watched this (the first episode purely by chance) I have to say it's the best series the Beeb has shown in many a long year. Nice to see the licence money being spent on decent programming.
The performances are all superb, especially Ben Wishaw who is no doubt destined for greater things. Coupled with a gripping storyline with many subplots it culminates into a finale that most could not have predicted..
In view of the release date, this would not go amiss on most people's Xmas wish list.
Buy it!

Best television drama since life on mars. Once you watched the first one you've just gotta keep watching to find out what happens. Just Buy it!
