By 1870 there have been ten years of a cruel war between settlers and Cochise's Apache Indians. Tom Jeffords, an ex-soldier, saves the life of a young Apache boy and starts to reassess his opinions of the Indians. As an ambassador of goodwill, he enters Cochise's stronghold, but is peace achievable?

really this movie was the first western to take the indians side in its approach, jeff chandler makes his first apperance as the great apache chief cochise he played the great man 3 times james stewart plays the old army scout trying to make peace with the apache, stewarts character tom jeffords did help change the way the white man and indian treated eachother chandler is fantastic as cochise, great story line based pon actual events
