Ford himself thought of this great film as one of his personal favourites. It tells the story of two young horsetraders, played by Ben Johnson and Harry Carey Jr, who take on the job of guiding a Mormon wagon train to the untamed Utah territory. All the elements of a traditional western, indian attacks, outlaws, and an inhospitable terrain, with an excellent supporting cast, including Ward Bond as the preacher, and Joanne Dru as the lady of doubtful virtue. The movie inspired the later TV series "Wagon Train".
