The final part in David Simon's Baltimore Saga, this is perhaps the most compelling season of the collection. Just as the other series focussed on one particular thread of Baltimore's network; The Dealers; The Docks; A New Generation; The School System; this season takes on the perspective of the media, and how the press reflects the crime on the streets. The performances are (as always) stand-out, with McNulty and Freeman really blurring the lines with what is acceptable police procedure.
The street thugs and hoods are compelling, and the season offers a myriad of twists and turns to round off the best crime series ever made. Echoes of past plotlines, and glimpses of new ones allow the viewer once again to become totally absorbed in Baltimore, and i will be not be alone when i say that the final episode feels like the end of an era (albeit a bloody and gritty one), and the melancholy final montage makes you realise that you no longer have any stones left untruned in Baltimore.… more »
