L.A Confidential, a sordid tale of sex, scandal, betrayal and corruption throughout the police, politics and press in 1940's Hollywood is a film noir masterpiece. The Oscar-winning screenplay is a compelling blend of LA history and pulp fiction. Kim Basinger's potrayal of conflicted femme fatale is outstanding and Pearce's character is an intriguing blend of amorality and ambition.

Film of the year 1998! Fantastic story, plot & especially cast. Realistic 1950's setting. And a superb ironic twist near the end of the film. What more can i say? This is one greatest film that has ever been made, period. Go get it!!! And the second disc only adds to what is already considered, a modern classic.

 Brutal. Riveting. Unmissable.

This Gripping 50s set Film Noir about Police Corruption and more knocked me for six when it first came out in 1997.
It is Brutal, Complex and Tough as Nails. The story is challenging and exciting all the way through. The recreation of a bygone Los Angeles is impeccable.
The ensemble cast are all in fine form. Russell Crowe let Hollywood know he was in town with a performance of Boiling Hot rage, which when spills out is terrifying. Guy Pearce is equally good, in a less showy role.
Kevin Spacey is pure class. James Cromwell and Danny De Vito leave a significant mark.
Kim Basinger won the Oscar for Supporting Actress, i found her performance to be good, not great.

But for me the real star of this show is director Curtis Hanson for assembling the perfect cast and then getting excellent performances from each and everyone of them, for directing the supposedly unfilmmable James Ellroys Novel without missing a beat, and above all for making the damn thing so unpredictable and exciting.

A Must Watch

It's about time warner bros. Got there act's together and brought us this special edition that this classic thriller truly deserves.
The simple truth is that l.a confidential is still and will always be one of the best thrillers of the 90's. The 1950's settings of l.a are gloriouse, and the film has not lost none of it's spark. With it's sharp script, wickedly dark sense of humour and amazing acting, everything in the film is classy.
Why buy this two disc version if you already own the original released one disc edition?
Simple!
It's the amount of extra features this version offers, that includes a great cast commentery, loads of making of features, and also the added bonus of including the cancelled pilot for the tv show.
This is a brilliant movie, with great extras, and without a doubt the version to buy.
A modern classic!

This is a very good case of modern film noir. Crowe is very good in a performance as good as he did in gladiator. Basinger and pearce are very good also. Kevin spacey was good too as he is often over looked in this movie. This has a great plot with a nice ending. A must for any collector

A masterpiece if not THE masterpiece of modern cinema. A film which understands exactly what it is what it is doing and what it is about and plays out with pace to resolve what is certainly on of the most complex detective stories the multiplexs have seen in a long while.

The story is built in solid layers exposing its audience to every clue with time to digest them without falling back on the cack-handed cliche of holding back that vital clue to end in order to maintain its twist. This movie had taken its plot cut it up the pieces and shuffled them about as to confuse the eye but in the end its all there for the taking.

Well acted directed and supported by a perfectly balanced score by the late Jerry Goldsmith along with first-rate editing sound design and cinematography this is a pleasure to watch every time. This is a true classic that is bathed in the noir which in it is set pretending at nothing feeling not like a period piece nor modern this is timeless in recreation of the 1950s

Even its gruesome elements do nott feel overplayed and I am still always surprised to this day when I think that it is an 18. All in all this is the benchmark of modern film making ticking every box perfectly.

A fantastic film with a first-rate native to drive it. Every filmmaker should see this and learn.
