Based on the classic children's novel, "The Little White Horse", The Secret Of Moonacre, set in 1840's West Country, follows Maria, a 13 year old orphan, as she embarks on a journey to the mysterious Moonacre Manor. Once there, she finds herself in a world full of secrets and mystery. She discovers that she is the last Moon Princess and only has until the next full moon to undo the misdeeds of her ancestors to save the Moonacre estate disappearing into the sea forever. Along the way she seeks the help of a whole host of wonderful creatures and magical beasts.

 Good but not Great

We watched this as a family, My husband and I were dissapointed, it was a boring in places and very predictable, my 10 year old thought it was o.k and my 5 year old loved it ! Watchable you are at a loose end, but don't expect much.

Based on (now & then) the lovely book The Little White Horse

Another film which is very, VERY loosely based on a book, in this case the lovely classic Carnegie Medal winning novel The Little White Horse. If you watch the film as a completely stand alone story, it works ok in a kind of 'Updated for Today's Audiences' kind of way.

If you loved the original story, you may question why Loveday has suddenly become some kind of nature goddess rather than the kind & gentle soul of the book, why Robin has been completely changed in both character and family, and why Sir Benjamin has become angry & cold.

Worse of all, the feisty and dignified Miss Heliotrope, a woman of strength of character & conviction in the book, is here protrayed as nothing more than a cartoon character. The Miss Heliotrope of this film is in my opinion an appalling waste of Juliet Stevenson's considerable acting skills.

And this is the disappointment of the whole film really. The elements which make the book magical and wonderful are almost all stripped away, & we are left with CGI wizardry which just does not compare with the charm of the original story.

I feel that i must write after the other feedback that i have just read.
I went to the cinema to watch this film and found it thoroughly entertaining as did my 3 and 8 year olds and also my husband thought it ok. He being an officer of the law would have possibly commented had this been rather violent,
My only negative comment is that it could have been more magical and the lead girl struggles to be posh sounding but considering she is far from this in the golden compass it is no surprise.

the most dissapointing, annoyingly boring movie ever made...

I'll give you a bit of advice, do not buy unless you like being bored, i expected a fantasy filled good old adventure, instead a wasted £10 on a cheap, slow, action empty movie. There are a lot of bad movies and this comes a close second under: the day the earth stood still. Do not even contemplate buying, this is what bad movie is defined by.

 Absolutely Brilliant

I thoroughly enjoyed the film which i watched with my 4 year old boy. I have not read the book but i shall certainly be reading it in the future. It was a magical film which i enjoyed from beginning to the end. Well reccommended.
