I heard about this film by accident while surfing the net and when I discovered it was based on the game I've really enjoyed - Dungeon Siege I started looking at the online reviews.
This IS an Uwe Boll film and it shows BUT this is one of his best, possibly his best effort yet and yes the dialogue at times is awful and the accents range from East-end to Californian but I found myself enjoying it (a few drinks help). Watch out for some hilarious turns from Matthew Lillard as the gurning drunken King's nephew and Ray Liotta in a cravat! Bizarrely, Ron Perlman of Hellboy fame is also featured (I know the guy has a history of picking interesting films but how on earth did Boll persuade him to do this film?)
Watch it with a sense of humour and don't for pity's sake assume that it's in any way historical. It's not a rip off of Lord Of The Rings its based on a game and should be enjoyed for what it is...a bit of fun and the chance to see Burt Reynolds complete with obvious face lift, wearing a crown at a jaunty angle.
In summary, the plot doesn't make sense and Boll has no idea how to control his actors but there are so many famous faces in this film, it's worth seeing just to find out who in Hollywood needed a job at the time of casting. Enjoy!
Better than expected!

Having come across this film at my local blockbuster, i thought it might be a good watch because of some of the films stars.... I was right a pure excellent film from start to finish, even though it was a long film i was entertained all the way through. Do not listen to the other reviews. If you like lord of the rings and that type of film this is a must watch film, from fight scenes, to love and war it has everything. The bad guy was a hated person all the way through so it shows he played the role well. I would highly recommend this film!!
I would say the only down side would be the length however because it is a roller coaster film it doesn't bother you to much.
Not its own.

The back lies! it sounds good it is not i doesnt metion on the back that it contains magic and anything like that and we put it on and the beginning contains magic and i was like whats going on it said nothing about magic or magic like creatures. i assumed it would be set back in the oldern days and be a good film i was wrong.
The film wasnt not its own it took aspects of other films and tried to mix them into one film! it reminded me of a mix of Lord of the rings, troy and gladiator and im not the only one who thinks so everyone i know whos watched it agrees with me! One of the worst films i've seen in a very very long time and i wouldnt recommend it to anyone.
It doesnt explain anything thats going on and things come out of no where i wont say incase you do for some reason still want to watch it but for the people who have will know what im on about. i was totally dissappointed.
All the potential

A film that started out to be what could have potentually have been an amazing film. All the ingrediants were there, all star cast, typical storyline, etc.
The thing that let this film down for me was the bad acting in parts, mainly from that guy from 'Scream', he's always been good in previous films but this one i think he was trying too hard, he didnt convince me at all. Also there was too many cheesy lines throughout the film and the orcatestrial strings failed to really capture the mood as it would have been desired, it was way too predictable, cheesy and stereotypical. The tree people seemed to have nothing great about them apart from swinging on branches like female tarzans with only one ability and that is to grab people with the vines, they were actually really pointless and didnt need to be in the film, neither did the kings daughter who even though she was in the film continiously, served no actual purpose to the story.
Stratham was awesome like he is in every one of his films, just a real shame a film that could have been AMAZING was let down by bad writing, odd casting and bad acting in parts.
'what might have been ? '

i consider this a missed oppertunity they could possibly have made a 'great film' the ingredients were all there.
a greedy nephew who 'plots' to steal the throne from his 'uncle' the king ( burt reynolds ) a 'scocerer' who is apparently willing to raise a army of 'mutants' to assist the nephew ( the scocerer i suspect has his own agenda )
'farmer' ( played by 'jason statham' ) who, with friends sets out to rescue his wife and avenge the death of his young son.
in the early part of the film 'farmer' is totally unaware that he is the son of the 'king' therefore the rightfull 'heir'
we also have 'tree' people, a band of warrior women who own and protect the forest as their 'land'
some great fight scenes from 'jason' as you might expect.
some of the battle scenes are also 'not bad'
however, this is so obviously a low budget movie with i regret to say some really poor 'casting' decisions, in my opinion they failed to make the most of what was a promising story-line.
as usual 'jason statham' does make it worth watching if but once.
A load of old Bolls!

If I say this film falls in the same category as Batman and Robin, Jaws 4 and the countless other movies that are blots on many distinguished CVs, then you may heed my warning and choose to spend your hard earned cash on something other than this.
After seeing this movie I had the feeling that I had just wasted 2 hours of my life that I will never get back. A harsh realisation.
A great cast, a tie in to a decent RPG and well choreographed and brutal fight scenes; the promise of a good movie was there. Jason Statham is gives a solid performance considering the poor script and naff direction, he delivers in the fight scenes looking every bit the sword master. Unfortunately, the bits in between the fight scenes, i.e. the plot, mean that the payoff is poor. At least on DVD you can fast forward through the bulk of the movie and just watch the battles - but do you want to shell out for a movie that you will want to skip through?
If you really must find a way of wasting 2 hours of your life, beating your head against a brick wall until you pass out is preferable to watching this.
What could have been

Such a shame, this film could have been so much better than it was. Looking at the box I was looking foward to watching it as have always liked Strathams films but how dissapointed was I. the whole film was completely mis cast, stratham should stick the gangster/martial arts films he is so good at, this did nothing for his career. Burt Reynolds was rubbish and that bloke from Scream useless and what is the point of that wizards daughter. aless known cast would have been much better leaving more budget to actually make this a true epic. she is in it all the way through yet does absolutly nothing. I don't think i would recommend this to any one.
Horrific!

Hard to know where to start with this film, without doubt the longest 2 hours of my life......well longest hour minus all the scene skipping!
The only reason we rented this film was cos it had my main man comedy stath's in! Unfortunetly for stath's, i dont think he even gets a name in this film, as his mate (whistler from blade) just calls him 'farmer' all film!!
Right, now that crucial fact is out the way let me get my teeth into this baby!! The film features an all star lineup, including stath's (who sports the common medievel buzz cut!!), whistler from blade ('give me the chicken!!!'), the crazy guy from scream (who overacts badly!), ray liotta (who clearly couldn't be bothered!), and burt reynolds (whose only concern seems to be keeping his headpiece on!!), oh and theres a homeboy (who sports the common medievel high fade and trimmed beard!!)
The director obviously didnt pay any attention to the time period the film was set in!
Indeed the only highlight for me, (apart whistler's demand for the chicken....that was priceless!) was the sight of stath's taking out half the bad guys with a boomerang!!!
The end credits were a truly wonderful sight, roll on crank 2!!!!!
Uwe Boll says it all really....

I have heard a lot of bad things about Uwe Boll movies and this was the first one I have seen. There is actually an OK movie trying to get out, it will never be a Lord of the Rings standard but what is. Most of the actors seem to still be in rehearsals and give lacklustre performances, the editing of the film is terrible, from one scene to another it has a very bad feel to the flow of the film. The sets have a very cheap look, Xena warrior had a more realistic look to them. I could go on and hi light the flaws but I think you catch my drift. The only plus note is Boll has managed to get a good cast list but, see above, he hasn't managed to get a good performance out of any of them. Steer clear and wait for a dull sunday afternoon when it surfaces on the telly, and thats probably not too far away bth.
Avoid this film at all costs!!!

I picked up this film not knowing too much about uwe boll's previous films, and as soon as the intro kicked in i knew that the film was going to be complete garbage. I was particulary suprised by the strong cast that featured in the movie and how terrible scripts can make the best of actors look torrid. If your'e looking for a film to laugh at with freinds then pick this up but just remember that your not lauging at the film in the way you usually would, youre laughing at the film because it is absolute tripe!!!.
