Tony Soprano tries to be a good family man on two fronts - to his wife, kids and widowed mother - and as a capo in the New Jersey mob. But when the pressures of work and family life start giving him panic attacks, Tony begins seeing a therapist. These visits he keeps to himself, because Tony has already identified his biggest problem - if one family doesn't kill him, the other one will.

The groundbreaking dramatic series from writer-producer David Chase stars James Gandolfini, Lorraine Bracco, Edie Falco, Michael Imperioli and Nancy Marchand in an inside look at the family life of a modern-day mob boss. Part satirical, loving homage to the influences of the great American gangster films, part darkly comedic study of a New Jersey Italian-American family, it is has become one of the most admired television series of all time.

The set includes every episode of the classic mafia series.

 TV Drama. Redefined.

Despite being a fan of mob movies, I never managed to catch The Sopranos when it was broadcast on TV (I'm always too busy to properly follow a TV station's schedule). Nonetheless, I heard it was a good show, so I took the plunge and purchased the complete box set.

Boy, am I glad I did!

The Sopranos is compulsive viewing. I managed to watch all six seasons over the course of one month, because when one episode finishes, you're simply dying to watch the next! Each episode is crammed with interesting characters, cutting dialogue and first-rate acting. And although classified as a TV drama, there is a lot of humour injected into each episode, so its not all downbeat and grim - you'll be laughing during scenes as well!

For fans of mob movies, The Sopranos is essential viewing. For casual fans, it still makes a great TV show. I know because my wife could care less for mob movies but even she would sit there watching episodes with me... Because its not just about the Mafia. Its about family and relationships as well - but certainly not in the "boring" way you may think it is.

Highly recommended.

 Amazing show, good set

I wrote an earlier review but it won't let me edit or delete it, so I couldn't change my subtitle facts on it. I've had to do another review using a different account to clarify the details. (These have all been available in my review on a well-known online book store for months now.)

What else is there to say about this sublime series? Its like watching the best film in the world and there's hours of it. So many brilliant characters come and go but Ralph has to be the standout lunatic amongst the many psychos that Tony has to negotiate-including himself.

 One of HBO's greatest!

The Sopranos was the best show to hit TV in many years, and I remeber being rather sad to see it go last year. If you haven't seen it then this boxset is the ideal excuse to invest some time in quality made drama that really does stay with you.
Now sure, there is some great dramas out there and american television is really starting to challenge the silver screen in terms of quality. I can assure you though, that The Sopranos really is the best out of all of them (followed shortly by The Wire.)
I was gutted they ended it, but that said at least they didn't flog it to death as most of the past greats did (X-Files anyone?) and for those of you new to The Sopranos it does keep you guessing and gripped to the end.
But alas I'm preaching to the choir here, fans no doubt would have ordered this or purchased already. Play and HBO. Two words. Blu Ray? Really folks, buy this. Now.
