From the makers of American Gangster and Deja Vu and based on Michael Crichton's classic sci-fi novel The Andromeda Strain stars Benjamin Bratt (Law And Order), Rick Schroder (24) and Eric McCormack (Will And Grace) and is directed by Mikael Solomon (Band Of Brothers).

It all started with a brilliant flash of light - and then a thunderous explosion. In the desert, in a sleepy town in the middle of nowhere, something has just fallen from the sky! Within the hour, all the townspeople - except a single infant and a drunkard old man - are dead. Now an elite scientific unitare sent in to study the deadly virus, determine its origin and figure out a way to stop it... Before its too late!

 Not a strain to watch.

I saw the casting in this film / mini series and thought what the hell it got a bad review when i first looked at this thought id give it a chance.

It was good to see Eric Mcormac back on the screen and some other recocognisable faces. I never saw the original that everyone is talking about so I can only base my opinions on this one ive seen.

I thought this film was rather good, the story was interesting and the action very good. I understood what was going on so they didnt over complicate things, the graphics were good. I believe this was throughly entertaining.

The only reason why I gave this film a 4 instead of a 5 was becaue it was around the 3 hours mark and some bits where a bit drawn out, but still enjoyable :)

 Awful

Absolutely awful - dodgy CGI throughout and a real betrayal of Michael Crichton's original novel and the original film...get either of them, but avoid this like the virus itself!

 Plastic acting

If you want to immerse yourself in to a movie, forget this one and get the original. This one is good for background noise while you do the housework.

The plot has been utterly destroyed by pointless additions to make it 'contemporary', such as the cocaine-addicted journalist who adds absolutely nothing to the film other than to distract you from the suspense.

The acting is plastic is what you'd expect from TV. All are young and gorgeous of course, which is pathetic since they're also meant to be the brightest and most experienced in their field of science/medicine.

You really need authorative acting and pose to pull this film off, what you see in this TV remake are actors more intested at looking in the mirror, or crying over their modern-day 'issues'. Meanwhile all mankind (sorry.. ) humankind faces the greatest catastrophe since ape climbed down from tree.

The CGI so dodgy and uncalled for, the original 'felt more realistic & believable.

The whole experience is rushed.

 Great celeb-packed, mass-audience sci fi

I'm not the biggest Sci-Fi fan and wasn't sure I'd enjoy this...until I put it in the player and was gripped from the start. It's a mini-series so it is 3 hours long but this was good as I watched it over a few nights, never really wanting to turn off but hey! There are loads of great actors and performances to give a really convincing performance - buy it!
