Three-time Oscar®-nominee Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption) reunites with horror-master Stephen King to write and direct this chilling adaptation of the author's original short story, The Mist.
Following a violent thunderstorm, artist David Drayton and a small town community come under vicious attack from creatures prowling in a thick and unnatural mist. Local rumors point to an experiment called the 'The Arrowhead Project' conducted at a nearby top-secret military base, but questions as to the origins of the deadly vapor are secondary to the group's overall chances for survival.

Having just watched this, I secretly applaud the director. What started out as a B-movie standard, ended up being a study of human nature, and all its flaws.Flaws?! ...yes the film has a few, but stay with it as you can't help but become involved, with the characters and all their nuances, and in the end, you will leave...pondering the spirit of man, through the bottom of a popcorn tub!
P.s. anybody recognize the big monster...you saw it here first!
Arguably the finest Stephen King adaptation of them all.

Tense and unsettling with well drawn characters and examplary direction from Frank Darabont, The Mist is to my mind the finest American horror film of the last two decades. Far better than the remakes and torture porn slop that pass for horror films in most cases these days. I'm at a loss to understand how the previous reviewer could believe it a weaker film than the woeful Children of the Corn. A masterwork from a great film maker.
'not one of 'stephen king's' best ?? '

'stephen king' story's/ films were benchmarked by some really great films:- horror classics like 'the shining' 'carrie' 'christine' and
'children of the corn' films like this were what built his reputation as a great horror writer.
the film 'the mist' is not to be compared with the above titles, this film is in terms of 'stephen king' writings is in my opinion 'middle of the road'
not one of the worst you'll see, but not one of the best either ???
* a mysterious mist sweeps in from ??? a military experiment ??
with the mist strange creatures lurk within, humans are their target.
much of the film is set within a grocery store where a number of people are trapped by the mist, afraid of the unknown dare they make a bid for safety ?
how far away would they need to travel if they could escape ?
the film does have a wicked twist in the end.
