A fantastic Stephen King film!

I was in two minds about watching this film as having read the gripping short story, I was aware that it might be a real bad film if it got into the wrong hands.
I was not disappointed! Everything how King had described in the book was how I imagined it to be, the settings, the beasts, the actors... the film was fantastic! I am a huge Stephen King fan and have seen some real good films ( The Shining, Tommyknockers, Green Mile, Salems Lot, 1408 the list goes on..) but I have also seen some real bad ones ( Pet Cemetary, Dreamcatcher..).
I will be definitely buying The Mist on DVD when it is released!
Them or Us???

I used to be a huge fan of all adaptations of Stephen King, but lately I feel he has become very 'preachy' and you can usually figure out how the story is going to end. When I saw the trailer for this, I was intrigued and really wanted to see it and when I finally did, I wasn't dissapointed!
True, some of the plot is just flung out there for us to swallow and it does have the same Stephen King stamp on it - 'should we be afraid of the monsters or the people we are trying to survive with?'. But in this case it is executed rather well.
There is an excellent performance by Marcia Gay Harden as Mrs Carmody, someone who is full of the usual contradictions a bad guy should have. The special effects are actually quite wonderful and detailed too.
Even though the story has a few eye rolling moments, it's a good watch, spiders make ANOTHER appearance in this King adaptation, but apart from the 'movie by numbers' aspects, there are a few things in this which will keep you watching right to the end.
The thing about Steven King adaptions are when they are good they are briliant ( Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Misery) but when they are bad they are terrible ( Maximum Overdrive, Silver Bullet ,the list goes on) But this is one of the better ones, But being directed they guy who brought us The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, you could not expect anything else. The film is one of he best and little seen horor movies of 2008. This film was made on a tiny budget, but from the superb direction, great special effects and unflagging tension, you would think you were watching a big budget horror. Thomas Jane( The Punisher) is brilliant as the every day guy dealing with the horriffic beasts that live in the mist, as he, his son and the residents of a small town hide out in the local supermarket while The Mist lifts. This is where the film becomes very human, as paranoia sets in , and then all hell lets loose as the brilliantly designed beasts come out of the gloom and start to feed. The film is a hybrid of John Carpenter's 1980 vesion of The Fog, Eight Legged Freaks and Coverfield. But what raises this film above most horrors of the year, is the unforgiving ending, people may complain that it's too down beat, but for me it could not have ended any other way.
As the Cool nights start to set in for winter, and the fog starts to roll in, this is the perfect film to watch.
A suprising, well acted, nail biting movie, desitined to be a cult classic.
Brilliant!
oh my gosh

I saw this a good 4 or 5 months before this came out in UK cinemas, and actually went to see it again to see it on the big screen. It is so scary, not just the monsters but how people react in scary situations too. Loved it, Stephen King never lets me down.
This surprised me

I enjoyed ths far more than I thought I would, specially when considered that it is adapted off a Stephen King short story. . .generally not the best films do those make.
But the writer and director is the same who looked after Shawshank so well. Granted this is not Shawshank but it is much more enjoyable than most horrors that Hollywood throw out so regularly.
Yes there are some massive plot holes, as there generally are with these films, but there also some really nice touches. But the best part for me was the ending. I haven't seen such a downbeat ending for a longtime.
'stephen king's' films have been better down the years.

'stephen king' story's/ films were benchmarked by some really great films:- horror classics like 'the shining' 'carrie' 'christine' and
'children of the corn' films like this were what built his reputation as a great horror writer.
the film 'the mist' cannot be be compared with the above titles in my opinion, this film is in terms of 'stephen king' writings is in my opinion not the best i've seen, in terms of horror movies, i've seen many down the years, many with a lot more tencion than 'the mist'
however, it is probably wotth a watch.
* a mysterious mist sweeps in as a result of a military experiment .
within the mist strange creatures lurk, humans are their target.
much of the film is set within a grocery store where a number of people are trapped by the mist, afraid of the unknown dare they make a bid for safety ?
if they can escape to a vehicle how far away would they need to travel if they could escape.
there are some good sequences in the film which show creatures attacking,
and the film does have a wicked twist in the end.( a stephen king moment.
Best for a very long time

Whether you see it as a horror or a creature feature it won;t matter. This film is awesome. I'm not a fan of horror films, but I love my creature features. This ticjked every box for me and created new ones. The cast - spot on. Some fine performances and a truely menacing Marcia Gay Harden. Thomas Jane is insprising and it's just so nice to see a creature feature that brings so much more to the table. I've seen previous Steven King film adaptations and I've not liked them... This.. This just rules,
Do not miss The Mist!

This was an unbelievable surprise as I was going to pass this movie off as just another monster-flick.
The Mist is seriously one of the best movies this year if not one of the best horror movies I have ever seen. I would rank it alongside Cloverfield.
Frank Darabont (the director) has taken a gamble on this one and it really is shocking and it worked for me and my friends when we went to see it!
If you don't believe me, buy it! And see for yourselves!
Amazing Movie
