Starship Troopers is back as the war against the Bugs continues!

A Federation Starship crash-lands on the distant Alien planet OM-1, stranding beloved leader Sky Marshal Anoke (Stephen Hogan) and several others, including pilot Lola Beck (Jolene Blalock). It's up to Colonel/General Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien), reluctant hero of the original Bug Invasion on Planet P, to lead a team of Troopers on a daring rescue mission.

What people are forgetting is that the "Do you wanna' live forever!?" type cheese is very intentional in the movie and was no less present in the first movie, and less so the second installment. Along with Robocop, which is very much from the same stable, the mock news bulletins and federation propaganda that appear throughout the Starship Troopers trilogy were always supposed to be an intentionally cheesy critique of the way TV news and media are heading - an exaggerated caricature, if you like, of what is in store for us?

The cheese has always fed through into the storylines of the three movies, but perhaps more so in this third installment. But again, this is far from a haphazard accident. It is all very much tongue-in-cheek, and not intended to be taken too seriously - which I think some reviewers are doing. What they need to do is go back and watch the first movie, take off the rose tinted spectacles before doing so, and they will soon see that the apple hasn't fallen too far from the tree.

Elsewhere, the lack of budget is more than noticeable - but the effects are competent within the confines of said budget. The cast also do a very competent job, and Casper Van Dien's Johnny Rico brings more than sentimentality to the movie - his appearance makes the overall feel of the film very much a return to form. Well, almost. As at the end of the day, I cannot put my hand on heart and say it is as good as the original. But in parts it is, especially so in the action and bug bashing stakes - so expect swarm upon swarm of green oozing bugs waiting to die, as well as the red oozing "citizens" of the federation. But that's OK, they never wanted to "live forever" anyway. "Do you want to know more?"...as the line from the movie goes. If so, buy the DVD - you won't regret it. Just take it for what it is....and enjoy the ride.

appauling, seriously terrible. The first one was ok, but they should have stopped then. Honestly, don't buy it, please.

 Not Bad At All

Just saw the movie and must admit it wasn't bad at all!
Basically you get the same stuff as in ST2, but more grand in scale and more ambitious. From get-go you will see that it is a short-budget film with some amator actors, but if you get past that there is good chance you might enjoy the film too.

The movie has alot more lighter tone than ST2 with tongue-on-cheek moments and it has more space to breath. The effects aren't obviously best out there, but they work, and although there were few quite bad ones, I was mostly surprised how they could pull it off with the money they had.

Acting was ok for a straight to dvd film, even some of the goofy stuff didn't bother since it was obviously meant to be like that. Mr. Van Dien stole the show, though. He was absolutely brilliant. Overall there was less "poor acting" than in second film.

The story was good. The religion plot was good enough and can't be really explained here without spoiling the movie, but the film wasn't pro-christianity fanfare any more than Rambo IV.
On to other aspects, the news flashes are more frequent in this one and they are all great. The action is ok and in line with the story, but could have been better executed (maybe a bit more tighter editing/directing).

People who liked ST2 are probably going to love this. People who are customed to top-notch effects and big-budget films are mostly going to hate it. It hold on its own. A good movie and awesome work from mr. Van Dien.

I approached this film not knowing what to expect. The 1st starship troopers was great, one of my fave films. The 2nd was utter crap, so dark and lifeless. So when i read that they'd made a 3rd i thought oh no. Then i read that casper van dien was back in it. Then i saw the trailer and i was hooked. The thing with the 1st film was it did'nt take itself seriously, there was comedy in it, the 2nd had none! I watched this yesterday and i really enjoyed it. Yes its not got the budget the 1st one has but they've done really well with what they had. If you enjoyed the 1st then get this.

The second movie was ok, but didnt have the concept of the original, but ST3 is excellent! bigger budget, more gore and blood, loads of classic bug action and a few new additions. brilliant sci-fi. if you loved the original than you will enjoy this too. you can also ignore the second film if you wish and look at this as the official sequal instead.
