Clive Owen, Naomi Watts and Armin Mueller-Stahl star in The International.

Directed by Tom Tykwer (Perfume, Run Lola Run) The International centres around Interpol Agent Louis Salinger (Clive Owen) and Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Whitman (Naomi Watts) who are determined to bring to justice one of the world's most powerful banks.

Uncovering a myriad of reprehensible illegal activities, Salinger and Whitman follow the money from Berlin to Milan to New York to Istanbul. Finding themselves in a high-stakes chase across the globe, their relentless tenacity puts their own lives at risk as their targets will stop at nothing - even murder - to continue financing terror and war.

 A good thriller

I stress the word THRILLER. This is not a Bourne or Bond movie There's an excellent shootout scene and a couple of thrilling chase sequences. Anyone expecting an action movie will be disappointed. If you liked the paranoid conspiracy movies of the 70's then this is for you.

A REAL SET OF NASTY BANKERS!

This is a very good and topical thriller, Clive Owen is a great leading man as the Interpol agent investigating corrupt Banking and weapons deals. Don't be fooled by the sleeve on the DVD case, this is not an all out action thriller, things take time to fit into place, but the shoot-out in New York is well worth the wait, as it has to be one of the best staged action scenes of the year. As stated in some other reviews on this page it my not be everybody's cup of tea, but I found it a refreshing change to the bombardment of special effects that has been set upon us with the summer blockbusters of 2009. If you like your thrillers intelligent, and cleverly plotted, then this is a definate watch.
One of the better thrillers of the year!

 VERY GOOD!! wrong advertising

when most people see this film advertised or think of it they assume its a pure action film it isn't, its an intelligent thriller with bits of action and a great shot out near the end, beautifully shot, nice locations and great acting and the idiot bellow saying naomi watts was awful is wrong, she's a great actress. Clive owen is near to his best in this as usually he is very wooden in my opinion , but he was also great in closer and duplicity. To enjoy this film you will need patience and may need to see it twice to understand the story. But i liked it and understood it first time around

Could have been alot better, average at best.

I have just watched this in the cinema so my review is of the film and not the dvd. This film tries to show the power of the banking system and it's relevance to the progressive world order system we are all knowingly or unknowingly part of.The story while interesting enough does not follow through with it;s conviction.I found the beginning of the film pretty well paced and there is a well executed shootout in a modern building towards the middle of the film but after that this the film degenerates into a talky preachy mess. The ending came upon us from no where and seemed rushed as if the film makers either ran out of money or ideas.Clive Owen is as wooden and monotone as always.Naomi watts wasted here as she had very little to do,I was expecting greatness from this but was sorely let down.Very average indeed.A rental at best or just wait for a tv showing.
