I'm a fan of Jim Carrey - he's a diverse actor despite what many may think. Nonetheless, he has been in his fair share of stinkers, but also some corkers, too.
Yes Man struggles to rise above its mediocre script. Dabbling with slapstick, this character study doesn't quite know what kind of comedy it wants to be, so it ticks all of its sub-genres just to be safe.
As a result, you have a film that entertains and irritates in equal measure. It's cute at times, funny as well, and there's a decent lesson to be learned from it all. Unfortunately, it can also be very lecturing - unintentionally so - while being a tad too cliched and downright cheesy.
Is it Carrey at his best? NO.
Would I recommend this film when the price drops a little? YES.
