Tolbiac (Cornillac) wakes up naked, disorientated and lost in a dark cave deep below ground. He's cold, hurt, and has no idea what brought him there, or what happened to the dead man lying next to him. Surrounded by the ruins of an underground world and with only the faintest light source to guide him, Tolbiac attempts to recover his lost memory as he struggles to reach the surface. His journey takes him through a labyrinthine network of tunnels and abandoned laboratories, where he discovers he is not the only one trapped in this tomb-like underworld. Pursued by ravenous mutants and evil phantoms, he eventually meets a woman who may provide the clue to his identity, while all along the way he is confronted by evidence of a mysterious organisation known as Eden Log.

This film is very dark. I don't mean that in a metaphorical, sense, it is literally pitch black. I guess the reason for this is to add suspense to the film, and the guy is trapped deep underground so it does make sense. However rather than adding suspense, the darkness dampens the tension, making it very hard to see exactly what is going on... or to see anything at all! I really wanted to like this film more as it has a really good sci-fi story line, but it lacked something for me: the monsters weren't very scary and there are some bizarre events along the way that are quite frankly confusing. It is the kind of film I would have to watch twice to see if it made more sense the second time round, but I'm not sure I could put my eyes through 98 minutes more of intense eye-strain struggling to make out what is going on through the darkness!!!

I bought this film on DVD recently and watched it with my missus and son. The film takes place in a subterranean laboratory lit only by IKEA 40 watt bulbs and destroyed in what looked like the summer floods of 2007. Do not adjust your TV. It is meant to look like that. The sets are littered by large poly bags, sheets of polythene, flexible pipework and trunking from a DIY store. To say this film was made on a budget would be an understatment but they did honestly try hard with what they had available. The bad guys are well created and quite convincing. The script, whether it be in French or the English dub, was probably written by someone suffering the after effects of a lobotomy. It's a shame really because this film offered so much but failed to deliver yet did have potential to be something actually entertaining. Garlic mungous dudes.

Having also seen this movie at FRIGHTFEST I would have to say that it FREAKIN' ROCKS!! I have been waiting for the dvd for months and even bought the damn poster from France!
Sustained Horror tension in a Science Fiction setting, mixed with some of the most inventive production techniques i've seen in quite a while. The movie looks amazing, the performances are top notch and, when necessary, it doesn't shy away from the old violence.
Add to this a enigma of a plot (putting the bits together is half the fun), some really nice monsters, and a scene that may be as disturbing as a certain one in 'Irreversible', and you've got yourself quite a journey and I highly recommend it.
