4 Funny, weird and surprisingly gooddonaldmurdo | 30/01/2009 | See all donaldmurdo's reviews (20)My Sassy Girl is a film with flaws, a film that suffers from trying hard to soften a story that needs to be told more strongly but is also a film with a great deal of charm. The first half hour sets up the story but the remainder reveals the reason for what you have seen earlier on. Jesse Bradford and Elisha Cuthbert are wonderful leads but one of the good things about this film is the way that it balances drama, comedy scenes and moments of joy to make up the finished article. The plot centres on a boy meets girl who seems rather space-ey but we don't know why. The film looks at their developing relationship and the way they handle tensions between what they want for their lives and what they want now. There's a great deal of heart and soul to this film and it is a pleasantly spent hour and a half.It is a bit more polished than a film with this story should be but you cannot fault it for wanting to look good and not delve too deeply into 'issues'. It's funny but has a story that some might find it hard to get a handle on.
