When art student Ben Willis is dumped by his girlfriend Suzy, he develops insomnia. To pass the long hours of the night, he starts working the late night shift at the local supermarket. There he meets a colourful array of characters, all of whom have their own 'art' in dealing with the boredom of an eight-hour shift.

One of the best British independent films ever made. Very good story, nice characters and good cast of actors to play them. The story has allot of good personal relationship situations that feel true to the heart im sure for some people after breaking up with a loved one, the way the movie was directed and cut together with clever fades out of one scene into the next was great and there are some genuinely very funny laugh out loud moments too. This is certainly a finely crafted gem of a film for a semi-romantic comedy.

 Good film but borderline tacky...

Don't get me wrong, I thought this film was very good. The photography was excellent, the lighting set the mood just right and the actors were fantastic. It did take a while for me to get into the film, it was rather slow at the beginning.

The only bad points I want to make clear are:
€ Insomnia - There are a couple of slight Fight Club moments in this film due to Ben Willis having insomnia. A blatant rip-off at one point when he is able to sleep again. You will know which part I mean if you are a Fight Club fan.

€ Nudity - I love a bit of nudity here and there, but there is a time and a place for it in a movie. I felt as though there was a bit too much in Cashback and I got the impression that the director was getting a bit carried away with it. It was almost tacky in places.

€  'Corny' acting here and there from the lads in the film. They were funny but there were a couple of scenes that I felt they took the corny acting a bit too far, especially for an 18.

Overall a very good British film and is definitely worth watching.

 Light hearted, artistcally sexy film.

Wow!!!!!!!! what a film.

An Absolutely understated film packed with abstractly funny moments, like a mental ability like involving pausing time to wander about. And the beauty in the female body. It's as though the main character Ben is telling a story with his views and understanding's of the world around him. You also get unified of the breakdown of a relationship and going over what went wrong.

I suffer with insomnia myself, and sometimes just watch and listen to his story helps me sleep sometimes. And if i don't go to sleep it's ok it makes me think alot about things...

I hope you find this review helpful, and that you have the same enjoyment as I do. It really is a fantastic understated BRITISH film!

This really is quite a remarkable film; funny, intelligent and very thought provoking. The use of the time theme is very well played out during the film, very poignant for how we all miss those moments.

It also has a superb soundtrack which goes a long way to enhance the film further.

Beautifully crafted and very relevant to us all.

I really can't recommend the film enough.

i can't get no sleep... so i'll go work at sainsburys
