Happiness is a little 'messed up' in some aspects. It focuses on a few characters who are unhappy with their lives, whether they're in a dead end job, a successful writer or a rich family man.

They decide to pursue something that is what they truly want. That is, they pursue whay they think might make them happy, however for some, this is kind of screwed-up. For example, one guy is a rich successful family man, who also has an obsession with young boys. Another (played so well by Phillip Seymor Hoffman) gets turned on by phoning up women and talking dirty to them on the phone, whilst giving himself light-relief.

It's got that great depressed, lonely feel that films like Lost In Translation, Little Miss Sunshine and Gardenstate have; that act as a metaphor for how so many in society plod along never feeling 'real'.

It is amusing in parts and Todd Solondz has done some excellent work here. Be prepared to be engaged in a disturbing storyline or two, though the film is not disturbing at all and is shot so well that it actually tackles the issues with some underlying humour.
