Alien vs Predator: Special Extreme Edition (2 Discs)

Alien Vs. Predator is both a sequel to the Predator franchise and a prequel to the Alien franchise, the films seems to generate negative opinions and leave a bad taste in viewer's mouths.

The problem isn't that AVP is a bad film, the problem is it just isn't as good as previous Alien and Predator movies, Alien (1979), Aliens (1986) and Predator (1987) are generally thought of to be classics, and rightly so.

The movie is very action packed and generally fun, showing a newer side to 2 of cinemas greatest monsters while delving into thier long history. The cast isn't anything to get too excited about, Sanaa Lathan takes the lead role of Lex, with obvious comparisons to the strong female lead of the Alien saga, Ellen Ripley. Lathan does a decent job of holding the movie and she isn't too bad on the eye either. Henriksen's appearance is welcoming simply as a reminder that these films are all connected.

The special FX and fight scenes are very good and even the plot is passable. I find some films require repeat viewing for further understanding, AVP is one of those films, give it another chance.

Do you people even read or follow the story behind or you just heard AvP wow Aliens and Predators let's go watch it. Then say how rubbish it is... I assume half of the people that left bad comments don't know or are not willing to read, go and look up some AvP books and comics then you will appreciate this film. Most local libraries should have them so it won't cost you a penny to read them.

The woman had to stay alive as she seems to be the same black girl from the comics, in the comics you read about her struggle to fit in once she goes with the Predators and how she has to train 10 times more because her body is not build for the punishment the Predators take, there are a few comics where humans are accepted to hunt with the predators. If she is not the same then the producers had to show how the Predators have certain rules and they accepted her, she got marked because she killed the Alien and the Predator saw her as competent hunter and equal, something you didn't see in… more »

Predators also don't attack anyone who's unarmed or sick, again a honour thing.

The original AvP story is about a remote human colony on Ryushi which was a hunting ground for the Predators. Of course this is where the humans get cough between the Aliens and Predators but they do need to take a side in the end and they stick with the Predators. The leader of the Predators called Broken Tusk is healed by one of the humans but dies in the end at which point he recognises the courage of his human comrade, "bloods" Machiko with the mark of his clan. The story concludes with Machiko the sole inhabitant of Ryushi, the surviving settlers having been evacuated from the planet. She awaits, and is rewarded with, the return of the Predators and another hunt. One of Broken Tusk's former Predator rivals greets her and, recognizing Broken Tusk's clan symbol, accepts Machiko into the hunt.

Of course someone did point out how there is a lot of nonsense with the Aztec calendar. The archaeologist works out how to open the sarcophagus containing the weapons by turning the dials to 10/10/2004 without having to think about the complicated conversion from the Aztec calendar of 18 (20-day) months plus 5 extra days at the end of each year, to the modern Gregorian 12 month calendar. Then, when the trouble starts, he works out that the walls and floors will shift every 10 minutes because the Aztec calendar was metric. Good grief! As if the Aztecs had 60-second minutes, 60-minute hours and 24-hour days (and digital watches no doubt), like us. The Aztecs got their calendar from the Maya (who went out of business in about 925 AD) and the shortest time unit the Maya had was a whole day. And the pyramid they're investigating was supposed to have been built before the Antarctic region got cold. Antarctica's current layer of ice started to accumulate about 50 million years ago by the way - some considerable time before hominids appeared, never mind apprentice pyramid builders and predator worshipers.

Please if you are ignorant and don't know any back story don't comment. You might wanna check out the video games also to get some ideas. Some movies are made for us to just learn something. We have to stop living our lives as walking orgasms, to the point where everything we do for leisure has to turn us on.

My question is what does the The Definitive Edition actually have different then Standard edition:):) something that no one bothered to mention.
