I used to be very much of the opinion that if I hadn't grown up with a musical, then I wasn't really going to enjoy new ones in my adult life. Someone recommended I watch this film, and when they said it was about a band of uncouth brothers abducting some local townswomen I honestly though they must be mad if they thought I would even enjoy such a film. However, after watching it for the first time I was hooked for life. The songs are wonderful and you will be singing them in your head for days to come. Although the scenery and quality of the film is obviously poor in comparison to a very much computer generated dominated time, you easily get past this and get absorbed into a world of song and some truly fantastic dance scenes where every scene has something visually interesting to capture your imagination. Every woman can find which brother she would prefer, and every man can learn from the dance scenes which inspire you to grab a partner and take her dancing. Please don't be put off by the age of this film! I am 23 and think it is amazing, and modern films pale in comparison to 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers', they really don't make them like this anymore!
An unarguable classic musical. Just this week I made my sports, action, horror loving mate sit down and watch this (along with 'The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas' and most of Baz Luhrmans 'Moulin Rouge' (well, we had to go to the pub at some point)) and admittedly, he wasn't exactly converted to the whole musicals genre but he was not too unhappy to sit through the entire movie and tap his feet at the catchier nummbers.
