They only met once, but it changed their lives forever.
Without doubt, John Hughes' The Breakfast Club is one of the greatest teen movies of all-time, if not the best. Without it, we might not have witnessed the phenomenal rise of the 'brat pack'; the group of actors synonymous with the teen films of the '80s.
They were five teenage students with nothing in common, faced with spending a Saturday detention together in their High School library. At 7am, they had nothing to say, but by 4pm, they had bared their souls to each other and become good friends. To the outside world they were simply the Jock, the Brain, the Criminal, the Princess, and the Kook, but to each other, they would always be the Breakfast Club.
The film's title comes from the nickname invented by students and staff for detention at the school attended by the son of one of John Hughes' friends. Thus, those who were sent to detention were designated members of "The Breakfast Club".

John Hughes was the king of the teen drama / comedy in the 80's.
What made the films ring true to the aimed teen viewer, was his accurate writing of teenage angst and the ever widening cap between what the kids wanted compared to what the adults wanted from there kids. The Breakfast club is no exception to the rule, the film centres around a bunch of kids on detention one saturday morning. The kids are the usual cross section. The Prom queen, the Goth, the Nerd, the rebel and the Jock. But Hughes writes the characters in a believable manner, with all there faults and all there hang ups eventually coming to the surface. To say the film is mostly set in one location, and for it still to entertain, is a direct reflection of the brilliant young cast and Hughes's ability to write real characters. This is one of the best teen Dramas of the 80's that is both funny and touching in equal measures,
that leaves you asking, what happened to there careers after the fires went out?
Some of the brat pack movies that came out in the 1980s were really bad (weird science) but this movie is one of the best teen movies ever. The teens in it are all from different social status'. They really don't get along at all but over the coarse of the film they really get to know each other and are good friens by the end. Watch judd nelson as he steals the show as the character john bender. Buy this
