Inspired by true events (the great train robbery of 1963) Robbery is an uncompromising portrayal of swinging London's criminal underworld. Paul Clifton has assembled a team of highly skilled thieves and plans a daring heist with intricate precision. Although a preliminary robbery to raise funds results in the arrest of one of their members, Clifton believes things can still go off without a hitch. However, little by little, piece by piece, adjustments are made to the original watertight plan and things threaten to unravel... Starring Stanley Baker (Zulu, Guns Of Navarone), Frank Finlay (Shaft In Africa, The Wild Geese), Barry Foster (Twisted Nerve, Van Der Valk) and William Marlowe (Get Carter, The Chief), Robbery is an entertaining and archetypal entry into the genre of British Gangster Movies.

Great film let down (as usual) by Optimum dvd. The print is no better than a vhs and its NOT widescreen. If you aint seen it or havent got the vhs, buy it. If you have then wait for a better release

I watched this film on TV in the early 70's and had not seen it since then. Best robbery/heist movie I have ever, seen given its day.
Although somewhat dated now, the picture quality of the DVD is very good indeed. I like the cars of this era such as the MK1 jag used by the police and villians in it. That doesen't spoil the movie as many modern movies are set during previous era's anyway.
I enjoyed 'The Bank Job' recently but this is a better movie for its day.
I would be interested in knowing any comparable fact-based movie of this genre - if there is any?
Any less than 5 stars would not be justified in my opinion.
