In the middle of the night only six months before he is to be released, Leone (Sylveter Stallone), a model prisoner, is dragged from his bed in a minimum secruity prison and transferred to Gateway, a maximum security hellhole run by Warden Drumgoole (Donald Sutherland).

The warden has pulled every string he can to have Leone placed under his control, which is where he aims to keep him for his entire life. Previously, Leone had been one of Drumgoole' "charges" at another facility until he escaped to be at his father's death bed. Drumgoole's harshness, which forced Leone to break out two weeks away from release, prompted a newspaper report that accused the warden of brutality. Leone ws sentenced to addtional time, while Drumgoole was publicly humiliated and transfered to Gateway, the worst facility in the prison system. Now it's time for Drumgoole to get even. His plan is to physically ad psychologically intimidate Leone until he lashes out. When he does, Drumgoole will extend his prison sentence in "hell"... or kill him.

Watched this as a kid in the 80's, it's Classic Stallone.
Bare minimum Prison set Drama/Action/Thriller.
Stallone gives one of his best performances.
Watched it again recently and it holds up very well, not too sure what someone who watches it for the first time in 2011 will think of though
A must for Stallone fans.
It's getting 5 Stars, based on Nostalgia

I first saw this movie when I was five, and thought it was great. Now I have it for my own, nothing has really changed my oppinion. This is a wonderful movie. Donald Sutherland is brilliant, Sylvester Stallone is excellent and the rest of the cast are wonderful.

In this movie Stallone plays Leone a role model convict in a minimum security prison with only 6 months left to serve. Late at night he is taken from his bed in his cell and taken to Treadmore Prison ''The worst prison in the system'' Reason behind it is the Warden (Donald Sutherland) has a personal grudge against Leone for escaping out of his prison in the past to see a dying man afte the Warden refused to release him under armed guard for the day to pay his respects. At Treadstone Leone is subjected to pain and suffering which the Warden is behind. Wardens mission is to push Leone to the edge in order to make him do something that will keep him locked up under Wardens watchful eye. Its all personal. Stallone gives a terrific performance. Very good Stallone kick ass action throughout in particular at the end when he fights a guard armed with a baton, shield and riot gear bare handed. There are also some feel good moments in the film which you tend to get with Stallone movie. There is something about the characters Stallone plays that makes you love him (Perfect example Rocky Balboa as well as LOCK UP)

This film is a deffo must buy if ur a Sylvester Stallone fan. I mean this film definately shows you what life in a maximum security prison does to you. This film does contain a lot of violence but the fight scenes involving Stallone are awesome.
