This is the 3rd Stargate movie. The 1st was what started the franchise years ago, more recently we have has the 'Arc of truth'. Continuum, like the others, is a standalone movie. It keeps within the current timeline but can be watched by someone not familiar with Stargate at all as long as they appreciate science fiction. Naturally, if, like me, you happen to be a Stargate nut then you'll have seen every episode and know everyone inside out so it is a lot easier to get many of the subtleties within the movie such as Jack's humour!

Inevitably the story has done before or certainly certain aspects of it but then, with 10 seasons of the SG1 series that is hardly a shock. What this movie has is a big budget for a direct to DVD production. Indeed, many would have argued it was good enough for the big screen and I'd not have felt short changed seeing it at the local multiplex.

One sad feature is that this will be the last appearance of Don S Davis (General Hammond) who died back in June 2008

If you like Star Trek, Star Wars etc, you should love this movie.
