An original spin on an old tale.

I must say i completely disagree with negative comments about this film. The plot is simple which accomodates not only Little Mermaid fans, but also those new to the series and friendly for both adults and children.

As a fan of the Little Mermaid and its sequal, i was expecting a lot less from this prequal, much like other 'straight to dvd' titles, but i could not have been proved wrong any more than i was.

Admittedly, there are not as many musical numbers as the original, but i think that works well within the plot (music being forbidden in Atlantica) yet still provides a few fun numbers with Athena's song being one of my favourites.

It was great to see how Disney veered away from the 'menacing villian' type character such as Ursula and Morgana and instead provided a quite comical character in Marina Del Ray.

The animation is top-notch; something evidently lacking in the sequal. The original will always be a classic through its memorable music pieces and animation, however i feel this prequal really gives depth to the characters and for any Little Mermaid fan, this is a must have!

I have to say I dont agree with the other review to say the plot is "confused" is just plain crazy, true the plot is very basic and is aimed at the young but its very watchable.

If you like LMM then you will enjoy this new adventure

I was expecting good things from this film as prequels often have several nods to the original film which is great for the fans. Unfortunately this film missed out on that completely and with a rather confused plot and distinct lack of any memorable musical numbers i was left feeling a bit disappointed. This film has obviously been made for very young children and anyone else should probably give it a miss.
If you haven't already got the original on DVD i would advise getting that as it is a complete classic and way better than this.
