Bad, but not as bad as i've heard people say.

I first watched these two back in 2004, wasn't at all impressed. However i was expecting Pulp or Res-Dogs. And these didn't have dialog or soundtrack or shock factor Tarantino dose so well.
Having said that a friend of mine said watch them again not comparing them to pulp etc, i did and they seam much better, but not great. If Tarantino had nothing to do with this I and i'm sure millions of others wouldn't have bothered.
But each to there own.
Best in it are M Madsen & David Caradine, also Vivica A Fox was good too.

  A Tarantino cartoon bloodfest

| | See all Hawkbuff's reviews (6)

Say what you will about Quentin Tarentino, but one thing is for sure, he's never dull: he's a film maker who slams you between the eyes with originalty and dynamism. It's just that, at times, he disrails himself with long, self indulgent sequences that sometimes border on childishness. Like in this overlong movie (admittedly released in two parts - but nevertheless) when the avenging Bride (Uma Thurman) goes on the rampage and dispenses with consummate ease seemingly hundreds of screaming Sumerai warriors, where countless limbs are hacked off and the blood gushes in fountains of crimson froth. I'm sure it's meant to be humorus, and maybe it is for some - just not for the interminable length Tarantino allows it to run, because at this point I was starting to nod off. And that's a pity, for there's much to enjoy, even if it is in a cartoonish kind of way. But at least it's served up with some style and imagination. But when all is said and done, this really isn't up to the standard of Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 *****
Kill Bill has to be one of my favourite Tarantino films with Pulp Fiction. The film has an innovative and brilliant collaboration of music for the sound track, which lets face it isn't a surprise with the fact it's a Tarantino film. The film makes many references to the great films of the past.

Kill Bill really has to be known as a great, along with the legendary director Quentin Tarantino. The film was written stunningly, and directed beautifully by Tarantino. The iconic Yellow with a black stripe pattern has almost become as well know as the psycho shower scene music. The Kill Bill music is commonly recognised too, you'll have a hard time finding anyone who hasn't heard it. A good example of this is the brilliant reference to Kill Bill in Transformers.

The character of The Bride was portrayed thoroughly through the film and Tarantino and Uma are a great duo. I'd love to see Uma and Tarantino work with each other again.

The acting in the film was awesome on all parts. Uma Thurman was truly great and the role boosted her career enormously. Lucy Lui was great too, and played her role extremely well. She really showed off that she is growing as an actress and will certainly on the tracks to being a legend within the acting business. Vivica Fox was good in the small role she played, and she kicked ass! Darryl Hannah was stunning in Kill Bill, but doesn't really do much untill volume 2. Her character was built up great through the first film, and it gives the fight scene in volume 2 a lot more depth and tension.

Altogether, this film is a great film and will go down in history as a Hollywood great by an innovative and stunning director. As the film lies at the moment though, I think it's overlooked due to the other great films Tarantino's made. I recommend this film to anyone who hasn't seen it. Even if the film isn't your type of film, you'll appreciate it for the great film it is.

Kill Bill Vol. 2 ****
Kill Bill vol. 2 is another great film to add to the Tarantino Collection. The film is nothing but the continuation onto what was an instantly classic film. I can't help but think though what the film would have been if Kill Bill was a 3 hour film like originally intended. I think the film could have been a true classic as a 3 hour mammoth of a film. Volume 2 was definitely grittier and more effective than the first, but still retaining what we loved about Kill Bill.

The acting in the film was once again just great on all parts. Uma Thurman was Stunning and portrayed the character of The Bride brilliantly. David Carradine was absolutely great and really brought the film together. I still preferred the faceless enemy that we had in the first film though.
The acting on all other parts was great though and stylized the film into the old school category great.
The stand out performance for me though has to be Darryl Hannah, she was great and delivered brilliantly on screen. The fight scene with her and Uma was great and was one of my favourite parts of the two films.

I recommend this film to anyone and everyone. If you liked the first film then you'll definitely need to give this a watch, and it will not disappoint the true Tarantino fans.

The only thing that this and all the other Kill Bill DVD Products do not have though are the additional features to back up the quality film and give us the value for money.

REVENGE IS A DISH BEST SERVED COLD!

| | See all MovieAddict's reviews (1336)

Debates still go on over which is the best chapter in the kill bill movies. Personally I think they are as good as each other, but very different animals.
KILL BILL VOLUME 1
The first chapter is a blood soaked revenge movie with bags of style. The violence is so over the top as limps heads and scalps get chopped, it really is a Manga cartoon come to life, it even has a brilliant animated sequence.
The film dazzles with it's action, music and diologue.
*****
KILL BILL VOLUME 2
The pace may be slower in this second chapter, but the revenge of The Bride is just a savage but more personal, as The Bride gets ever closer to her goal of Killing Bill.
This final volume concludes the story, but has more characterisation, but less blood shed than volume 1.
But is just as good .
*****
No collection should be without both volumes, as like all the other Tarantino movies is a testiment to what a talent as a director he has, and deserves repeated viewing.
A classic, stylish revenge movie.

  Another Tarantino masterpeice

| | See all OOCJOO's reviews (9)

Kill Bill vol. 1 is essentially a killing frenzy that is exciting throughout, and leaves you desperate to see the second half by the end due to a cliffhanger being revealed.

Vol.2 answers all the questions and contains alot less fighting, which is a good thing as it allows the story to unfold more without hundreds of deaths.

As per usual, Tarantino mixes in a great soundtrack. This is a must buy for any Tarantino fans or action film fans.

What more could you ask for? After watching the first part, you'll no doubt want to watch the second - a box set you say? Perfect.

"That woman deserves her revenge and we deserve to die"

For those unfortunate enough to have not seen an Akira Kurosawa film, you should, and then you can appreciate the roots of these films, which are just as good as any of them. Quentin Tarantino has taken on board the look and feel of old revenge Samurai films but has also injected it with modern dialogue and style.
