I wish this film had a better reputation! Admittedly, some of the more erudite lines don't always roll as convincingly off the lead actors' tongues as they might've Woody Allen's or Diane Keaton's years ago - perhaps the film should've been set in the 70s or 80s, when more young people might still have shared Woody's intellectual interests? - but this is definitely one of Woody Allen's most likeable and (artistically)successful films in ages, including one of his best on-screen performances, great script and characterisation, wonderful cinematography, lovely tone throughout. Since the whole private life debacle with Mia Farrow, there's been an anger and sourness in many of his films that's mercifully absent here. Seriously, if you're anything of a Woody Allen fan, don't worry about the stab at attracting a new generation of viewers with the casting of Biggs and Ricci, they're actually ok, her especially (blowing Scarlett Johannson's doughy performance in the criminally overrated… more »
