Jack Walsh (Robert De Niro) is a tough ex-cop turned bounty hunter. Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Charles Grodin) is a sensitive accountant who embezzled $15 million from the Mob, gave it to charity, and then jumped bail. Jack's in for a cool $100,000 if he can deliver the Duke from New York to L.A. on time. And alive. Sounds like just another Midnight Run (a piece of cake in bounty hunter slang), but it turns into a cross-country chase. The FBI is after the Duke to testify - the Mob is after him for revenge - and Walsh is after him to just shut up. If someone else doesn't do the job, the two unlikely partners may end up killing each other in this hilarious, action-filled blockbuster from producer-director Martin Brest (Beverly Hills Cop).

This 80's gem only recently came to my attention, and i'm very glad it actually did. It can be described as a crime/comedy caper that has so much character and charm that allows it to shine and entertain flawlessly. The 'Run' suggested by the title is in pursuit of a single man-The Duke- who is simultaneously involved with the Mafia and inevitably the FBI. He is also worth a huge amount in Bounty, and it's from here that all three groups chase and hunt him down. De Niro's individual brilliance and constant cursing coupled with Grodin's (The Duke) wit and escape attempts creates an unlikely friendship that exists despite all the arguments and animosity each feels for the other. Midnight Run should be viewed for its comedy, its adventure and most of all, for its excitement and original twists that make it so successful.

 Pretty funny

I liked this film it had a good story line and it was quite funny but its defiantly not one of De Niro's better performances. Charles Grodin is very funny, his facial expressions just make me laugh. I would recommend this.

Still great after all these Years

I watched this film on tv last night and enjoyed it just as much as I did watching a couple of times years earlier, the two main characters are wonderful together.
Jack Walsh (Robert De Niro) is a tough ex-cop turned bounty hunter. Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Charles Grodin is on the run from the mob and the FBI, this is one of my favourite films, the dry humour is great, the film to me does not seem to have dated much at all and if you have not seen it, or even if you have, It is a great buy at the moment.

 One of De Niro's best

A classic caper movie if their ever was one, fantastic performances from De Niro and Grogan playing the bounty hunter and meal ticket out of the industry. Buy this film....you will not be disappointed
