The Basketball Diaries

A young rebel looking for exciting, a boy out of control and hoping to try new things and live life on the edge. His journey takes him from games of basketball and petty crimes to his downward spiral into hell, this movie takes you along on his journey to feel the pain and horror. It's written well, it keeps you watching from start to finish and makes you care about the characters. The directing has been well executed and really makes you feel like you're a part of the scene. The movie is powerful and gets the message across, it's touching at times and will really make you sit back and think about things in life. Good movie, Recommended

Another reminder of why Leo DiCaprio is one of the most successful and well-loved actors of our time. He is amazing and brilliant in this role, and the film is fantastic. A really good portrait of how drugs can destroy your life. It's harrowing and highly charged with emotion. How Leo has not got at least half a dozen oscars now is beyond me! This is SO worth watching!

Shows you the real life side of drugs, NO glamour! Mark wahlberg also surpised me with his character, i couldnt imagine anyone else suiting it better.

Next to "Whats eating Gilbert Grape", this is one of Leonardos best performances. He does a great job as a narator/actor and the story of reakless youth an the poison of drugs is both gripping and exciting.
This films is about friendship and comitment and a strong warning to those kids that think they have controll over drug usage.

This film really shows how easy it is to get sucked into that hell, what it does to the person and everything around him.
It's not a depressing movie, but an eyeopener

This is such a good film,with terrific acting from leo dicaprio.Di caprio plays the part of a gifted poet and basketball player who falls into the trap of drugs.A must buy.

The Basketball Diaries is undoubtedly a landmark for Leonardo DiCaprio's finest and unnoticed performance as the young junkie struggling on the streets of New York.
One aspect that empathises with this young man is the fact that he holds a vivid imagination and talent for writing. This is reoccurring as DiCaprio's character; Jim Carroll is narrating the dark, murky story with expressive words that are supported with an intoxicating cinematography.

Despite not being well know, this is one of my favourite films - it will keep you gripped from beginning to end with some excellent acting. A talented cast and compelling story will leave you more than satisfied that you parted with your money; and at a fiver...BARGAIN!

i really enjoyed this film and it kept me gripped from start to finish. It is not a very well known film which surprised me really as leonardo dicaprios performance is very good and well worth a watch. A must see !!
