The film itself whilst not necessarily the most amazing piece of cinematic...cinema, is quite decent and a the start to a potentially very good set of films. This is even the case bar all the plotholes and inconsistencies (*SPOILER* - How would Skynet even know who Kyle Reese is at this point? In fact, how would it ever know who Kyle Reese is and the potential threat he poses to Skynet?!)
Anyway, this review is aimed at this specific steelbook. The single disc is bare basics. It contains the feature, audio selection (literaly only a couple of languages), 3 trailers and scene selection. The film itself is the theatrical release. There are no deleted scenes / making of's etc.
My first impression of the steelbook itself was of dissapointment. It had the poorly placed 'sticker' back cover (a sheet literally pasted onto the back (the Hulk and Iron Man steelbooks from Play were the same.))
The back cover seemed 'broken' (had lumps in places) and there was no insert or anything. However, about 10 minutes ago, I found that the back cover sticker seemed to be peeling off in a couple of places. On closer inspection I found that it's only stuck on with that gelatinous type glue which can peel off quite easily. So I removed the back sticker to reveal a great image of a T-800 torso! Even the two rating symbols are easily removable stickers. Now I have a bare basics verison of the film but with a fab steelbook at a great price and I've just realised how sad this review is.
i made a mistake all i knew that most dvds come with extras but so some reason this doesnt and they are only on blue ray , im a huge terminator fan and thought this was a good movie a great start to the future war , sam worthington 5/5 acting bale 4/5 the film is more about marcus wright then connor which that should n ot of been but overall a great film ive put 2 stars not for the film but for the no extras which is rubblish
This could be the best film of the year. If you like action movies look no further, ignore the bad reviews the only reason not to see this is if you don't like the other three Terminator movies.
Bale/Connor doesn't have as big a role in this film as you might expect, but thats because he's not yet become the great leader we all know he's going to be, instead much of the focus is on the excellent Wotheringtons Marcus, and Kyle Reese. There's a couple of welcome cameos (of sort) in there too, and the FX are truly awesome.
Not groundbreaking in the way the first two were, but still a must see.
Lets get the obviouse out of the way, TERMINATOR SALVATION is not quite as good as James Camerons Terminator 1 and 2, but it mops the floor with the underrated but disappointing Terminator 3.
The story kicks of in 2018 where SkyNet has gone self aware and decided to terminate the human race, what is left is a rag tag group of resistance fighter trying desperatly to avoid or Kill of these Steel Assassins. This is the early days of the future war, and the new killer A.I. has not perfected it's models yet and are trying desperatly to unleash it's new model the T101. to do this they have to harvest humans to be able to copy the cell stucture of the flesh that will cover the metal Skelaton. Christan Bale delivers the best incarnation of John Conner, but it's Sam Wothington's Marcus Wright that really has the best part. I don't want to give the film away and spoil the viewers pleasure, but I can say this film is a movie of amazing action, jaw dropping effects that really do bring home the feeling of the jaw dropping effect that T2 had back in 1991, that offers a good story that will know doubt be further explored in the following sequels. McG really has put this series back on course, and proves the doubters wrong, as you can have a Terminator movie without Arnie. The film is not without it's faults, as some of the other characters are underwritten, but this is a Terminator movie, and this one delivers., and after the rapture this film got after it's sneak screening you know Director McG will be back!
An eye scorching Sci-Fi ,go see it on the biggest screen possible.
