This has to be one of the most original, moving, entertaining and thoughtfull films I have seen in some time.
Its about a boy born on a cruise ship in the year 1900 (hence his name), he is raised by the crew in the boiler rooms, where one day he escapes the boiler room and finds a piano in the upper class area of the ship, and naturally plays the piano like nobody!
He plays mostly jazz, but some classical influences do pop in from time to time, he never wish's to leave the ship, because the ship is his home, his sanctuary and freedom.
The film goes at a steady pace, its very well acted, directed, written and has something unusual about it which makes it unique.
I saw this film a couple of nights ago on tv, and was captured from start to finish. I reccomend this to people who like films with a simple and yet thoughtfull touch.
Highly reccomend!
Such a refreshing story. It's nice to know people still make these kind of films.
This is a wonderful film that shows courage, love and loyalty through the form of music.
Actor Tim Roth gives an amazing performance as a slightly odd character who is a prodigy on the piano. It's a real heart warming film with some amazing scenes, both moving and intense.
I would recommend buying this, it's a film that you can watch again and again.
A must buy !!!
Excellent film spoiled by the DVD

I can't fault the film, easily 4/5 stars. Unfortunately this version on the DVD only carries a 2 channel soundtrack and it's imediately noticable. Audio is flat and uninspiring. A sorry state for a film with such an excellent musical score.
A really well done and stunning music story

The legend of 1900 is a story of a baby who was found on the first day of the new century by a Coal hand. Hence the name 1900.
The story follows his life aboard the ship, The Virgina. How he discovers his skill at the piano and how his life will forever be bound to this ship.
What sets this movie aside from other "life film" is the music. It is truely brilliant and moving. Set in the 1900-1920's its caught up in the height of the Jazz era. Its hard not to start bobing to the music.
But its more than that. Its uses music to express nearly all the emotions of 1900. That is skill.
A movie well worth £5.99.
