An elite U.S. counter-terrorism squad loses a member while decimating half of Paris in the reckless pursuit of Middle Eastern maniacs; a Broadway actor with a traumatic childhood secret is naturally hired to replace him. Oh, and they're all marionettes.

South Park maestros Trey Parker and Matt Stone (along with co-writer Pam Brady) came up with this shameless satire of pea-brained Hollywood action flicks and even smaller-minded global politics, so don't expect subtlety or even a hint of good taste. Team America is soon on the trail of North Korea's evil Kim Jong Il, who treats us to a tender song about his loneliness before ensnaring Alec Baldwin and the rest of the oblivious Film Actors Guild (F.A.G. for short) in a plot to blow up every major city on the planet. Just as the mindless squad cheerfully demolishes everything in sight, so do director Parker and company. Throwing punches Left, Right, and in-between, the movie's politics leave no turn un-stoned; there's even time to bludgeon the musical Rent. It's offensive, irresponsible comic anarchy seemingly made by sniggering little boys. Painfully funny sniggering little boys...

Strangely the anarchic Team America is the sanest attempt to make sense of the War on Terror. It is also an intelligent parody of Hollywood action movies and their jingoist approach to anyone from foreign shores. It also destroys the self-importance of certain A-List stars who feel they have the right to comment on any issue because they can open a semi-decent movie. It is also one of THE funniest comedies in years and essential viewing for anyone with half a brain. It has also avoided the sense of humour bypass that seems to be a requirement when responding to this subject.

 Really funny Thunderbirds style film

The only way i can describe this film really is Thunderbirds with lots of swearing, violence and attitude.
Really funny stuff, some great songs and the celebrities in it are great.

There are so many films that you just can't trust reviews that give an outright 5 stars. This just is not 1 of them.
Team America deserves every star it gets. If your hanging on to delusions of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet gone high tech then you are in for a shock.

If you don't come away from watching this film without at least 1 thing stuck in your mind then you clearly were not paying attention. As others here have said, it mocks American politics beautifully. It mocks how Americans see terrorists. Similarly to the 'Spider Pig' song from The Simpsons Movie, it takes alot of willpower to avoid singing the theme song of this film (at least in your own head). From one liners to OTT speeches, from an excessively long puppet sex scene to completely innapropriate background music. Everything is funny.

There is always a chance that the humour just isn't your cup of tea, but it doesn't make the film any less brilliant.

1 of the more lasting effects from this film is your attitude towards Matt Damon... if you've seen it, you'll understand.

 Wrinkly non-South Park fan

As a 50-something year old with a twisted sense of humour, I sat down to watch this film more out of curiosity than expectation. Although I love films like Shaun of The Dead and Little Shop of Horrors, I have never really 'got' South Park, so wasn't expecting to enjoy Team America. How wrong can I get ??
Just one word for this film..... WICKED !!
For my fellow wrinklies, just imagine Thunderbirds meets Spitting Image and you'll get an idea of what this film is all about. The puppet animation is a very affectionate tribute to all those great Gerry Anderson shows, complete with highly visible strings and funny walks, and the humour is completely out of this world. The satirical view of Americas 'destroy the planet in the name of world peace' policy is hilarious, and says more in 90 odd minutes than a whole lifetime of Panorama ever could. WMD's, friendly fire, bad intelligence, Hollywood politics and more are lampooned non-stop, and all woven into a strangely compulsive storyline. If you are squeamish about political correctness, strong language and puppet sex this may not be your scene, but for those of us with an ounce of intelligence, an open sense of humour, and a desire to know what Lady Penelope and Parker might have got up to when the cameras were off, this is essential viewing.
Congratulations to the film-makers for having the bottle to say what the rest of us are thinking. We should send copies of 'Team America' to Mr Bush and Mr Brown / Blair (though I guess they wouldn't understand it !!)
