It's Pete & Dud's take on the Faust legend and a very funny one at that !! Yet another example of a classic 60's movie with very strong 'Pythonesque' overtones. The story revolves around Stanley Moon's ( Moore) various failed attempts at a wonderful life with a Wimpy Bar waitress, (Eleanor Bron) with seven wishes granted to him in return for his soul, as collected by the Ultra Suave & Hip, Wisecracking 'Prince of Darkness' (Cook) The film is really an elaborate series of strung together sketches, but is none the worse for it and most of them are really hilarious !! Of course you need to have a taste for the 'Monty Python' school of 'off the wall' humour and then you're away !! It's Directed by Stanley Donen, although I really wonder what he had to do with it , as there is so much Peter Cook & Dudley Moore personality written over the whole movie ....
