The final 3 episodes of Series 4 are fittingly the best, and the culmination of much anticipation regarding the return of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler.

This does however highlight an issue which some have had with this DVD, that it is almost a soap opera. Personally I like how the return of Rose gives us a rare insight into the Doctor's emotions and how the series led up to this moment.

The other problem lies with arguably the stars of the show - the Daleks. This may just be a result of me getting older but the Daleks do not seem to bring about the same fear that they used to, with respect to both the audience and the on-screen characters.

The first episode on the disk, Turn Left, is a very intelligent episode, with the emphasis on Catherine Tate's character Donna Noble. As such, those that dislike this character may want to steer clear from this episode but would be advised to watch it anyway due to how it sets up the final 2 episodes.

Ah yes, the last episodes. Some have detracted from them, saying how the events seem so far fetched, but in the world of the Doctor they do make sense. Even so, the 'two Doctors' dynamic does feel odd at best. It is also worth noting that the ending, whilst not entirely rosy (no pun intended) is certainly far happier than the ending to Doomsday (series 2). Whilst it is nowhere near as moving in any respect, this is actually a good thing - preventing this double episode from forever living in the shadow of Army of Ghosts/Doomsday (which remains, in my opinion, one of the greatest moments in modern British television).

Finally, the overall package. The RRP is rather steep, especially when considering there is nothing in the way of bonus features. If you want to buy this DVD (which I heartily recommend you do), I would advise to buy off Play as it is far cheaper.
