How much blood would you shed to stay alive?

Awakening from a drugged stupor, Dr Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) finds himself chained to a pipe in a dingy bathroom, with another man (Leigh Whannell) in the same situation across the room. The men are the latest victims of the Jigsaw Killer, a maniac who uses elaborate traps to test his victims' dedication to life. Given six hours, a hacksaw, and a bullet, Dr. Gordon tries to figure out a way to freedom, hoping his kidnapped family (including Monica Potter) can survive the nightmare as well. Hot on the Jigsaw's trail is Detective David Tapp (Danny Glover), an equally as insane cop who was once the victim of the Jigsaw's evil scheme.

Went to see this at the cinema and was amazed at what an original horror film this was, the whole idea behind it and the way in which the film made you follow it closely and really feel the emotions of the 'victims' within the film.

Whilst the guilt of seeing what was happening to them being cast a shadow of doubt when you see why jigsaw had chosen them to be kidnapped made you have to keep watching!

Not so sure about all these sequels to it but when this first came out it really was a must see film and something i would recommend getting at this bargain price or better still wait until all 4 come out on DVD together!

quite simply the best horror/suspense thriller ive ever seen. anyone who says they guessed the end is lying or it was just a wild stab in the dark. i watched this in the cinema and ive never known the whole audience to sit there in a shocked silence at the amazing end twist. it had me gripped from start to finish,im guna stick my neck out here but i thought this was better than seven and silence of the lambs, a masterpiece

 shocking but gd lmao

this film is truly awesome i loved it then and i love it now too bad about the bad follow ons but if you want something to shock you and you don't mind a mind bending plot that once unraveled then you will love this piece of art.

I consider myself to have a pretty strong stomach. I am one of those people who loves the general 'horror genre' concept...and I am all for 'realism' and effective 'shocks' in film-making.

But I am afraid to say that, for my taste at least, the SAW series of movies, especially this one, go way too far down the gore-fest highway.

I felt physically sick within twenty minutes of this movie. Maybe this was the intention of the director, but frankly it just detracted from the storyline itself...which then in turn ruined the whole movie.

The actual storyline itself was 'OK', somewhat unbelievable, but hey, aren't they all?! That's why we love most of 'em!

I was unimpressed by the standard of acting, in general. It was again 'OK', but nothing special...considering the money they must have spent of special effects, it hardly did them justice.

The whole thing was rather like being transported to some sick, Victorian experimental hospital. The storyline, as I said, became blurred and irrelevant. The amount and degree of 'gore' was actually totally unnecessary. It was lazy film-making, a lack of thought and an attitude of: 'oh well, all they want is a bit of gore, we don't need to worry about whether they understand the plot or not.'

In other words, the film maker showed an utterly patronising attitude towards the viewer. I don't care much for film makers that do this.

I will not be indulging in any more SAW fests anytime soon.

 Total Drivel

watched this and found the film rubbish. Total nonsense and if anything I was laughing all they way through it as it was just plain stupid. Why they have subjected us to a further 3 sequels of equal hilarity Ill never know. I would not watch even if the paint in my house was dry.
