A story about true love, friendship, brotherhood, family, misery, luck, grief, mourning, happiness, life, odds, destiny, goals.
A good director, beautiful and convincing performances, together with an exellent soundtrack, make a terrific movie.
This is 'quiz show' on speed.

First off, I agree. Not a feel good film in anyway.
Its actually pretty gruesome...

My girlfriend loves, to pieces. I didnt. I wasnt that captivated, as you knew he would be let off, and that the flashbacks were too jumpy. I am impressed by the tiny budget claimed to be used, but at the same time, was completely uninspired. Its like a boring Alladin in a way, poor guy makes it rich and pinches the girl. Except Aladins better.

And how can he love her if hes only seen her once since he was about 5?

Not a bad flick though, wouldve been four stars if it wasnt for the hype. I think awards ruin films like this, the underdog film that should be praised and doesnt is always better than the underdog who gets too much credit.

  Very good but misleading advertising.

Rape, child protitution, child slavery, suicide, police brutatlity and child torture all make for the 'feel good movie of the year'....

are you kidding me!

You can read the synopsis above to the story of the film but its 15 years and over certificate should be almost pushing 18.
There are a few dark moments in the film and this does not take away from a great film, a little bit overated for an oscar but its a good film that stands out from the other comic book, lame comedies and remaking of films going on in Hollywood right now.

One of the best of the decade

I was really marvelled by this movie. The story is awesome, and I am very impressed about how characters are presented. Laitika is very strange. She's not really a "princess", she fears Jamal interventions, doesn't believe in her feeling... We have also a good picture of the 20 last years India...

I have a question : Is there french subtitles on this DVD? It will release on 25 july in France, but I'd rather original version, with just subtitles for my little sister...

It is NOT the feel good film of the decade.

I don't have a problem with the film itself but it i'd have known how hardhitting this would be I would have avoided it.

I don't really think that just because the guy won so much money and was reunited with a girl he knew in childhood this can be classed as a happy ending. Anyone going through what these people go through would have so many emotional issues that money isn't going change things.

This film portrays a very gritty image of India which I believe to be realistic, but unfortunately one man winning a fortune won't change things for millions of others.

Maybe I should have just enjoyed the film for what it was but I just found it incredibly depressing.

In view of all the hype surrounding Slumdog Millionaire I wouldn't go as far as to say this is one of the best films of the year, but it certainly is entertaining. The young cast are all excellent and very believable, especially Dev Patel and Freida Pinto as the leads. My only problem with the film is that left me thinking it could have been better than it was somehow. Good though it is it isn't a great movie in my humble opinion, also I think the way in which they mess about with the rules of Who wants to be a millionaire just for dramatic licence seems a bit daft.

Also on the DVD side of things the transfer for this movie is pretty poor, it quite often looks soft focus and fuzzy, hopefully the Blu-ray will be better. The best DVD extra however is the commentary from Director Danny Boyle and Dev Patel which is fascinating to listen to.

Anyways regardless of that Slumdog Millionaire is a good movie and well worth a watch even if doesn't quite deserve all the hype it has heaped on it.

Some people don't know a good movie when they see one.

I think it gained all those BAFTA's and Oscar's for a good reason...it is an excellent movie. It made me cry, laugh, smile and feel scared! I love a movie that keeps you on your toes.

  Average - nothing special

Ludicrous storyline, average script, average acting, average cinematography. It's okay and if you're into happy endings, then it's worth a watch, but by no means is it anything radical, amazing, or spectacular.
