From Academy Award winning director Peter Jackson (Lord Of The Rings, King Kong) and producer Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan) comes the extraordinary story about one girl's life, and everything that came after.

When 14-year-old Susie Salmon was murdered, she left her unfinished life behind. But now from her place in a strange but beautiful in-between world, she must help her father catch her killer and protect her family before she can finally move on. Filled with thrilling suspense, hope and the redeeming power of love, it's one of the best films of the year!

Based on the critically acclaimed novel by Alice Sebold,

One of the BEST films ever made

Ok, so I really DO NOT understand what all the fuss is about with all these people writing this film bad reviews? Ok, so yes Peter Jackson did leave out a few different parts of the book and some characters did not have as big a part as they did in the book but helloooooo EVERY film ever made that is based on a book does the exact same thing! I mean in The Time Travellers Wife film quite alot of the story from the book is left out but the film is still great. What people should remember is that a film based on a book is JUST that... BASED ON!! It is an adaptation, not exact! So if everyone could stop getting their knickers in such a twist that would be great! .. I saw the film when it came out on cinema and loved every minute of it. The acting is beyond superb, especially by Stanley Tucci and Saoirse Ronan. There is real emotion and the CGI is amazing .. (again, people who have complained about too much CGI - honestly, shutup) .. I finished reading the book literally the other week. I would say that yes the book is better because it is the full version of the story, however, I love to see things visually so the film I adore as well.

I am buying the DVD first thing Monday when it is out and it is worth every penny if not more!! Overall, such a beautiful and extraordinary film.

If anyone actually watches a film that is based on a book and expects to see every 300 odd pages of the book within the film then seriously, get a clue. :o)

Top 100  Reviewer Top 100 DVD Reviewer Top 10 Music Reviewer

I agree fully with the reviewer below. It is a remarkable book and the film had the potential to be magnificent...but unfortunately it isn't near the mark.

There is too much focus on special effects (eg. Jackson showing off) and Susie's heaven which are not the important parts of the novel. There are major themes, scenes and plot lines missed out completely which was a total disappointment (eg. Susie's mother's affair) which is a huge shame. As a result of missing alot out and focusing on special effects as opposed to character development and narrative there seems less to chew on.

What makes this film most disappointing however is the perfect cast is underused. Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz is woefully underrused. I was looking forward to her portrayal, but she isn't given enough screen time. If this adaptation was faithful she would have been brilliant. Wahlberg is impressive, but given too much screen time. Tucci is brilliant and deserved an Academy Award nomination for this role. Sarandon is excellent comic relief and one of the better characters, at least Jackson got her right mostly. Ronan is the best however, effortlessly portraying Susie (it is a disgrace that she wasn't nominated for Best Actress this year), she has been nominated in Atonement for a supporting role, and truly deserved to be nominated again for this if Tucci did. Nevertheless she is very talented and could have an exciting future.

Don't get me all wrong though, I LOVED parts of this film. There is a scene where Susie ends up in her killer's bathroom (which wasn't in the book) which is rather stunning. The acting from Ronan, and special effects here are superb.

The score is awesome too, it is a hauntingly beautiful repetoire which helps the emotional scenes bear weight. I remember especially the scene where Susie's parents are told to fear the worst, it was very dramatic.

So, overall there is excellent acting, and some excellent parts but overall it is a painful disappointment. If Jackson had spent more time focusing on the beauty of the novel, than the beauty of his CGI this film could have been one of the best of the year. Definitely watch it though, I will certainly be getting it as there were some scenes I loved and Ronan is definitely worth watching. Why she was snubbed by the Academy for this I will never know.

 *** A Brilliant Film to Watch *****

Please ignore the latter critic's negative reviews. This film is brilliant and a must see movie. It starts as you must be aware of a very disturbing event which takes place. The Writer, Producer and Director of the film have made a very creative and imaginary story which they have told very well. It is truely exceptionally film which will have you crying in parts. You will be wishing and wanting certain further events to take place throughout the film. I want spoil it for you. Buy this DVD you want regret it. 5 Stars Rated Top Film.. *****

 Amazingly sad

I thought this film was very sad but so well acted and the storyline brilliant. I like other reviewers was surprised it was rated a 12A and not 15 just due to the content which was seriously creepy for me at 30yrs old let alone a younger person. It was filmed beautifully and the young girl who plays Susie Salmon was just amazing. Would defo watch again

How is this a top seller!!!???

Never wrote a reveiw in my life but feel so passionatly about how bad this film is and how no one should suffer watching it i had to...

dont beleive the Star i gave this, i would not give it one star if that was an option...

before people think i didnt get it, I do! its just not good. The young girl is a sucky actress, the suspense what little there was, was pointless. the girls side of the story just trashes the life side... what could of been a good film with some really punch behind it really freaking people out about murderus pedos is kind of put out of step by this silly world the girl is in that keeps showing up like that one really drunk chick at a party no one wants near them!!

please avoid like the plauge...

(only film worse than this is the Informant!! nothing happens in that film)
