Nicholas Cage plays EMS paramedic Frank Pierce. It is the early 1990's and New York has not yet undergone its renaissance of recent years. Surrounded by the injured and the dying, Frank is dwelling in an urban night-world, crumbling under the accumulated weight of too many years of saving and losing lives.
The film follows Frank over the course of fifty-six hours in his life - two days and three nights on the job - as he reaches the very brink of spiritual collapse and redemption.

Bringing Out The Dead has to be Scorsese's most under ratted master piece. From the talented mind, writer Paul Schrader (Who also wrote Raging Bull and Taxi Driver which Scorsese also directed) Gets into the mind of a burned-out Paramedic Frank Pierce in which he is haunted by the guilt and failure to his patients on the job.
The film is visually stunning! and the acting is top notch with Nichols Cage taking the main role as the subtle, tormented paramedic and Tom Sizemore almost stealing the show as his crazy (out-of-this-world) partner.
Oh and there's also an awesome soundtrack to match ...cant go wrong with a bit of Van Morrison
