'The Official Story' is the true account of a woman faced with the hardest choice she could make - to live a lie or to risk tearing apart her own life and family.

An aristocratic Buenos Aires high school teacher and mother of an adopted 5 year old girl begins to suspect her daughter may have been born to one of Argentina's thousands of missing people (Los Desaparecidos) who disappeared while the nation was in the grip of a junta (1976-1983)...

Whereas filming began in 1983 (the same year the military dictatorship ended), the production was cancelled due to the threats received by the crew and Analia Castro's family. However, the film's production resumed in secret until the project was eventually completed for release in 1985. Their efforts were rewarded when 'La Historia Oficial' became the first Argentinean film to collect the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1986.
