Another reviewer asks the question why did lucas not make the prequels as good as this. I would'nt agree with that at all. The sequels were very good and i enjoyed them very much. The fall of the democratic republic is scarily close to what is happening right now in america as the people sit by whilst the administration grab ever more powers in the name of security. these animated films are marvelous though.

Top 100 DVD Reviewer

This series and it's follow up blow the prequels out of the water.

The animation is gorgeous, simple and stylised. All of the major characters get a look in, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padme, R2, 3PO, Yoda, Mace, Dooku, Palpatine, Sidious (!) and plenty of other faces, some familiar, some brand new.

Originally this series was broadcast as 3-4 minute episodes so if it seems to jump fromone character to another you'll know why. One of the benefits of this DVD are that as a continuous narrative it works so much better.

Standouts are the last episode featuring the debut of General Grievous acting the way he was originally envisioned, as someone to be feared and not jeered. Plus Mace Windu taking out an entire army of droids all by himself, Anakin in the rain fighting a Sith apprentice, Kitt Fisto fighting underwater and Obi-Wan kicking a lot of rear ends.

It looks great on a really big screen, so treat yourself, also get Volume 2 which is even better and look forward to the upcoming series 3 which'll be in 30 minute segements in full CGI.

Having an already stellar reputation with instant animated classis Samurai Jack (Kurosawa for Kids) Genndy Tartakovsky seems the obvious choice for Lucasfilm moguls to charge with an animated series.

The gambit paid off, in Spades, the result being an animated series that actually surpasses the prequels it was created to bridge.

Capturing the characters perfectly both visually and vocally in fantastic 2D with some excellent CG augmentented dog fights in space, Clone Wars gives deeper and more action packed insight into the films than the films, ironically.

The Jedi battles offer the sort of lightsabre battles that fans dream of, and the drama is elevated by a fantastic score and a feel more reminiscent to the original trilogy than the prequels.

In short, some truly outstanding Animation, that goes some way to redeeming the prequels, in fact betters them.
